I left for a month, and came back. I needed some time away
from the computer and I recieved alot of positive E-mails
which turned my spirits. Anyway, let's not get off topic.

WHEN THE HELL IS KILL BILL 2 COMING OUT?!

just did a quick google search.. according to the
messageboard on movies.com, variety mag published a push
back in release date until april 16th..

empire online confirms it.. according to them, buena vista
said that april 16th was a US release date.. the UK date
will be "somewhere between that + the end of may".

so anyone looking fwd to it will just have to sit tight.

they moved it back to April 16, and said it may even be
pushed back later.

I've seen

Pulp Fiction
Resvior Dogs
Kill Bill vol. 1
From dusk till Dawn
Jackie Brown

anything else worth checkin out? ( maybe even by a different
dirrector/writer?)

Not to change the subject but i'm SLOWLY trying to cross
over to david lynch although I hear he's highly overrated,
making his movies more confusing than they have to be. First
and only Lynch experience for me is Mullholland Drive. I
thought it was trying to be stranger than it actually was.
Kinda cool though. anyway...

he's one of those "i've seen too many films, and i like
comparing EVERYTHING to the movies i've seen" -people. That
part is a bit annoying, but the fact that some of his films
have been made just to fuck with people makes him good! I
love most of his films!

tarantino is overrated in general, he only filmed 4 full
length films and there's so much talk about it...and they
are not even that brilliant - they're very good thats true,
but there are just way too many films that are "just" good.

have anyone seen Hugo Pool (no, not a Tarantino-flick, but
it seemed to fit in here)? I just saw it a few days ago, and
it was so strange that i have to say I loved it!

he has a distinguished style, but its basically a fusion of
hollywood & godard....pretty sad actually

pulp fiction and reservoir dogs are the kind of movies that
changed the way people make movies. by that measure,
Tarantino is certainly a great director. It takes more
than a "just good" director to have that kind of influence
on film making. especially with such a small catalogue.

can you name some directors that followed his path?
im not disliking what he has done, it's all good stuff, but
there are many similar directors that don't get near as much
attention as tarantino, he is over hyped imo.

i'll make the same old tired point i always make again in
every thread when it comes to this argument:

does the amount of hype he gets actually affect the film as
an artefact?

in my opinion, no.. people have a habit of talking things
up. thats just commercialism. i try my best to ignore it +
judge the film/song/album/book/blablabla on its own
merits..

yak yak yak *sigh*

offline tolstoyed from the ocean on 2004-02-02 17:07 [#01058770]
Points: 50073 Status: Moderator

i think it affects a little...cuz if it didn't tarantino
would perhaps try something different for a change, but
since stuff he's doing is selling well he's happy with it. i
still think his films are good, but doesn't stick out of the
average - for me that is, ofcourse.

purely out of interest (im not disagreeing with you + this
isn't meant to be confrontational).. what does stand out
from the average for you?

offline tolstoyed from the ocean on 2004-02-02 17:42 [#01058821]

hmm, there are some directors i try and watch everything
from: todd solondz, claire denis, emir kusturica, sean penn,
coen brothers, patrice chereau, aki kaurismaki, pedro
almodovar, francois ozon, lars von trier, jim jarmusch,
spike lee, ... these are the ones that are still active. but
it isn't really all that important who's the director, it's
easier to decide what to see, but i often saw nice films by
"anonimus" directors...
