Drukqs?

Is it me or is this the worst Aphex release ever? I mean
don't get me wrong its an interesting listen but a lot of
the tracks are just so forgetable. The sound is often pretty
out of tune, cluttered and directionless. I know its a very
different a distinct record but very few tracks on it
actually work. I will always listen to it every now and
again just so I can remind myself what it sounds like but
basically it can't be a very good record 'cause I never
really play it.

cock-ver10 has seriously got the funk but those whining
discordant ambient lines with a large amount of 'release'
just ruin the pace in parts and downgrade the track. Its a
prime example where one element just seriously ruins what
could have been a 100% seriously rocking track. Better more
punchier notes and sounds in that respect would have boosted
that trax no end.

Oh well, I just can't get into this record. When I compare
funky shit like Amen Andrews to Drukqs, I know what I
prefer. Even when I was more open to the drill style going
back 2/3 years odd; I didn't get into this release majorly.
I will endeavour though

I actually dont like it much...

I LOVED it for the first year after it came out.

But either overkill, or something... I just cant dig it
anymore.

I do like the piano/ambient tracks off of it, and I made a
playlist of that that I listen to...

but alot of the drill tracks are just too much for me. I
dunno... drill has just gotten so boring for me. The only
drill stuff thats really gotten me going wow recently, was
some of the tracks off ultravisitor...

and fyi, I love confield

I agree that some of the trax are "forgetable" but overall I
like the album. I do like the more upbeat/drill trax most.
For the rest of them I do have to be in the right mind set
(high/sad) to not skip past them.

utmost genius.

track-by-track.

24 hours ago I would have agreed with you but I have
actually been listening to it today and I have realised that
the initial disappointment masked some truely excellent
moments. Still not the release it could have though in my
worthless opinion.

i didn't like much of it right away.. but it grew on me.. i
really like the piano tracks.. some tracks are much better
than others i suppose.. i like the melodies on most of the
"drill" type tracks.. but the constant beat/sound-switching
and usage of the claps and other cheesy 80s drum machine
type sounds kind of get on my nerves. i mean it's good that
he can make nice music out of those sounds.. but those
sounds are not really redeemed because of nostalgia..
because of my young age.. it just makes the tracks seem kind
of unserious to me. it just seems a bit tedious to me
sometimes.. all the layering and switching between all the
cheesy percussion sounds..
but i do like the tracks on it that contain unique sounds or
beautiful melodies..
but i guess that maybe is really is the point of the album..
to prove that beautiful music can be made with almost any
sounds/tools.. depending on what rich uses, it can be
gorgeous, crazy, cheesy, etc..
..in my opinion and such..

worst. Dunno why it doesn't get more credit.

i don't find the 80s style drum patches + handclap(ish)
sounds on drukqs 'cheesy', or 'un-serious'..

i wasn't aware aphex twin's music was meant to be serious
anyway?

this is just one of those subjective threads.
one person says they like it..
someone else says they dont..
and so on + so forth..
ends up being pretty boring after a while.

ah well..

thread that is a back and forth of opinions, we'd have no
threads about music left!

Is it me or is this the worst Aphex release ever?

No way,
it's very original, it just sounds like something that
SHOULD exist, like someone should have done it all along,
but Aphex Twin was the first to come around and do it.

WTF this is probably one of my favourite aphex albums. The
piano tracks are simple, but moving. The ambient tracks are
good. And the drill tracks just kick ass. I don't hear
anything cheesy in them at all.
