Why is that awesome? Mos Def is one of the most un-Ford Prefect-like people ever. Ford is immensly British in character. The whole thing screams of 'we need a token black guy in the film!'.
I think he'd make a better Zaphod, to be fair.

No way. Ford is not necessarily British in character at all. He is just a hoopy frood who really knows where his towel is.

Yes, he is. He's been living in Britain for 15 years, and he's the second most British character in the book (aside from Arthur). He's also intended to be white. Mos Def is incredibly un-Ford.

Why is he intended to be white?

Yeah, you seem to be basing this on the character from the 70s tv show. Just because he has lived in Britain for 15 years doesn't make him "immensely british".

The TV show showed the characters how Douglas Adams intended them.
No, because he lived in Britain doesn't make him British, but the character that comes across from the radio series and books is very fucking British.

mos def is a good actor, maybe he will be very convincing as an immensly British character. who cares if he's black. Al Pachino isn't Cuban and he is awsome in Scarface.
In High Fidelity, the character Marie de' Salle was supposed to be white and blond but having Lisa Bonet worked great on film.
i think we should wait till the movie comes out before we start goin all "Tolkein Geek" on it.
