Anyone seen this movie? I watched it for the first time a few weeks ago, and while it was interesting, I just didn't 'get' it.
Funny, I remember when I bought SAW II, there was a sticker on the cellophane that said something like the music on that album could have been in 2001 when they see the monolith. I would probably have to agree.

I kind of liked 2001... I watched it a few years ago, and so I was really young... I'd like to watch it again... for me, it was more of an after feeling movie, where it left me with a good impression, but the actual watching of the movie wasn't too exciting...

mmm...here goes;
evolution involves tecnological leaps; so the apes learned how to use bones as weapons- so modern humans create computers which have 'higher intelligence'.
the monoliths represent milestones in advancement..
But in advancing our technology we become slaves TO it, eg apes using weapons for war humans using computers to do things we cant do ourselves, eg take us to other planets.
and so the computer ends up controlling and enslaving mankind,
'reification;' the violence of 'things'... Hal is so powerful he develops
independent thought and goes insane ....
I think its a big anti-technology, anti- 'Aint humans cool' film.
we evolve but merely for the sake of material advancement.
or something like that....)) or something completely different, i'm just not sure. Good film tho.
