I decided I was smoking too much so I stopped smoking for
this month. That was a couple of weeks ago.

I don't know, everyday I wake up and think I should try to
not smoke that day and then I end up giving in.

So, I smoked a pack a day, sometimes almost 2 packs a day,
for 8 long years. And you know how I smoked? will power. I
just decided one day while smoking at work that I was going
to quit and I just stuck with it, it was hard, but I just
kept at it, in the end it is as easy as just saying NO.

herm, i'm wierd - smoked on and off for about two years.
last week i smoked most days, haven't had any for a week,
don't even want one, no cravings, nothing. never really had
them, either - smoking like a train one week then stopping
for a month isn't even slightly a problem. seems that i
can't easily be addicted to things, which is good.

that said though, smoking occurs out of habit and
association, at least, that's my theory. a sure way to
quit, in my opinion, is while you still are smoking, just
cut down your smoking to particular places and times that
you can cut out of your life reasonably easily; then when
you want to quit, just stop going to those particular
places. the association isn't there.

a lot of people smoke when they drive, when they get up in
the morning, when they have a coffee.. you just need to
change your smoking patterns so that they don't occur while
you're doing something else you're going to do commonly,
otherwise quitting is hard as fuck as you're reminded of the
association/habit, and the craving comes back.

but i'm probably rambling :-)

it is just as easy as stopping, just do it, you do have
control over your arm picking up and lighting a smoke, it
breaks down to that, will power.

Usually with quitting habits I get in that 'anti-weakness'
mindset to prove to myself that I'm not weak.

yeah..... but I mean its just like I said more than once
now..... you have control over your body's actions, you are
in control, just dont do it. just plain and simple dont do
it. dont smoke.

mimi: i was serious. but if your not willing to try then you
can buy this stuff that has a bitter taste, made specially
for nail biters, I cant remember what its called. but it
does exist in many places in the world. so you should do
fine for being a yank.

i said this in another thread (about nicoteen withdrawal)..

i've given up in the last 6months.
still given in to the odd cigarette when out with mates
(can't remember the last time though) but i havent been
buying any.
it really is a one-day-at-a-time thing.
i read somewhere that cravings only last about 10-30
seconds.. if you can resist for that period of time, then
youve beat it.. until the next craving.
the longer you keep on like that, the more infrequent the
cravings get.

last time i had a drag on a cigarette, i did it solely to
see how it felt after so long without on. it was fucking
disgusting. you start to physically FEEL a lot better after
a while too. things taste real again. and the spare cash is
definitely a bonus. hang on in there.. its only shit at
first.
just dont turn into a righteous anti smoker.

as the late bill hicks said: "i'd quit, if only i wasn't so
scared i'd become one of you"

after that it was easy. just quit. but you really have to
want to quit.

it is indeed.
nicoteen leaves your system in 24hours.
after that its up to you.

acrid milk hall: yup! defenitly, i had a hard time quitting
after smoking heavily for 8 long years, but I did it, and it
wasnt that hard at all after the first week you just gotta
do other things, everytime I was at the bar or at a friends
drinking or smoking pot id think about a smoke cause they
mostly all smoke and id just say "fuckit, no way im smoking,
that would be giving in", which it would be. so i didnt. and
now im wayyyy happier to be smoke free. I think its becoming
a health trend or something, which is good cause I know a
lot of people around me who are now non smoking too, its
rather quite interesting.

I smoke 90 percent out of habbit/boredom and 10 percent out
of physical addiction. but if I start thinking about
quiting then all the sudden I'm like "damn I want one right
now" and if I wait very long then I end up having 2 in a
row. it's really dumb. I mean I'll quit eventually I know
I can. I quit drinking for a year when I was being an
alchoholic. so I know I am capable of quiting substances.

yeah well appearently your not capable of quitting smoking
you just aid it yourself. no one is capable of doing so
until they have already done so.

I smoke a lot and I don't want to quit. It would have many
adverse effects on my daily life. You see I use smoking as
a way to take a break. It gets me outside, I walk around, I
think about other things. Then I'm able to go back in and
work on things without getting writer's block or a
brainfreeze or what have you.

hey - if you want to smoke, smoke.

what i dont understand is people who bitch about the fact
they smoke all the time, but dont do anthing about it.

when i decided i wanted to stop (for all kinds of reasons) i
did. im not saying it was easy. i was weak willed for quite
a while.. but eventually i made up my mind that i definitely
did want to quit (after a period of cutting down + seeing
how it felt)

I've been meaning to start a theard about how I'm sick of
friends who have "quit" smoking and yet they smoke my
cigarettes every chance they get. I normally only smoke
half a pack a day but now I'm going through twice that. Its
expensive for me too. goddamn, those fuckers

be strict with them.
if they really want to quit, they'll love you more for it +
you'll love them more for not smoking all your cigarettes.
if they don't want to quit yet, they should stop conning
themselves + start buying their own smokes again..

:)
