Humanity? Direction?

Okay, this is a heavy general question. Where do you think
humanity is heading? Do you think that the planet is
destined to be fucked? Do you think that humans will rape
the planet so much that Global Warming will cause massive
catastrophes that will wipe out entire populations? Or do
you think that Nuclear Armageddon will ever occur?

do you think that humans will realise these possibilities
enough and try to prevent them happening or repair the
damage done?

Your thoughts please!

bye

hmm, it's just terrible when you think about how little time
was needed to fuck things up so badly...only like 50 years
or so. surely now will take centuries to repair rhe damage -
at least at this tempo right now. i hope US put more effort
into saving environment...

I think a relatively small group of the population will
escape to a colony somewhere else, say the moon- the elite
if you will. Earth will continue to house a human
population, but most of the land will be unusable.

in a purally economic standpoint:

It's sustainable business or nothing at all. It is possible
to do things, make things, everything we like to do as
humans, in a way that doesn't hurt the environment, doesn't
hurt people.

I think without that, we will eventually whiter and die,
with it, we should sustain if not improve.

this is my life goal.

I think it all depends on who wins the next US election,
they have such a massive influence of the world, not just
environmentally.

Trying to pin point the direction humanity is going is like
asking where a beam of light is traveling to. It is headed
in an unknown direction but it is heading forwards on its
way.

Yes, it will have a massive influence. It is very difficult
to have a positive outlook, what with the direction we are
heading, where the main goal is profit and gain. Workers
rights are lessened (temp agencies used so that companies
can claim no liability), union power is weak to the point of
uselessness, unaccountable corporations violate enviromental
and social laws. It is difficult to to see any positive
direction.

Of course I`m not a pessimist and I am quite a positive
person, but it very frustrating to witness, and indeed, be
part of this direction.

It`s hard to see much change in the forseeable future. I
guess everyone has to make the best of what we have.

:)

the US is 4% of the worlds population, guess what percentage
of the worlds pollution the contribute?

20%... and Bush don't give a fuck, i'm glad to see some of
his main challengers in the US elections have mentioned
pollution as something that needs to be looked at seriously.

we will most likely fuck this world up until it's too hot in
most areas to inhabit, and the icecaps will melt into huge
insane oceans ala water world. some humans may eventually
evolve into sea-mammals and others will migrate to mars.
what we should do is start launching all of our rubbish and
nuclear waste and such into space, or send it into the sun..
i mean.. the astronauts already release all kinds of shit
when they are there.. and who really cares what kind of
garbage is up there floating around in an endless vacuum?
also we should make some kind of magnet-powered
transportation, or just have each car be nuclear powered..
since we'd be sending all the excess radioactive waste-goop
into the sun anyway.

"and who really cares what kind of
garbage is up there floating around in an endless vacuum?"

In space, there is no air resistance so things can travel
very fast. Things like screws can rip the hell out of
spaceships.

screws? They were talking about DUST jacking up the space
shuttle and stuff.

A screw would prolly go THROUGH the space station! man we
pollute everything we touch :(

probably, if the americans have their way with the outcome,
there will be a big mess environmentally, socially and
psychologically (add some more -ally's here if you want) on
the earth, and then people will be relocated to places like
mars where we can start over and pretend the stuff on earth
never happened.

the most damaging idea or belief in this world is separation
of mind (briefly, that we exist only as electrochemical
phenomena, trapped within a body, alone and powerless). as
long as people persist in dividing themselves against each
other, and insist on blaming other people for the world's
problems, the situation will worsen. for example, dividing
yourself against others might include (but is not limited
to) using labels like race, ethnicity, religious identity,
nationality, etc.

some who read this might think that it is impossible for
human beings to resist dividing themselves against others,
they think this behavior is natural and normal, despite the
promotion of conflict. others cling very tightly to these
labels, because they believe that they provide a sense of
identity and self, the labels tell the world "who they
are."

nevertheless, in my opinion, this world will be healed, but
possibly only after deep and profound conflict. this
process will include: the rejection of belief in separation
of mind; scientific discoveries regarding the origin and
source of life; the realization that consciousness gives
rise to matter, and not the reverse.

Nuclear destruction people. I think a large proportion of
the world's population is headed for extinction. We all hate
too much. Maybe once the "end" comes, the few that survive
will be able to build a new, better place. I hope so, but
i'm not filled with optimism.

humanity is heading
straight into the fire.
as prophecied, countless of times.
there is still time to turn back, but not for much longer.

we're going down.
Because of the way we live.
Environmentally, we're a disaster.
Most aspects of society needs to change - we're not just
going downhill now - lots of people are
suffering/dying/wasting their lives today because of the
society they live in; because they need money. Fuck
capitalism.

anus presley, maybe one day you'll back up your knee-jerk
cynicism and insult-slinging with something of substance.

while i respect your right to your opinion and have no
problem with your strong disagreement, i'd like to hear you
voice a genuine, thoughtful opinion that doesn't consist of
a dismissive attack on someone else's thoughts.
