better ones.

because it kills all the postulates of filmmaking and
building a new ones, therefore moving film in a totally new
direction, faraway from art as its ever been

uh, dont know if i would get this tho

offline Komakino from Tan-giers USSR (Russia) on 2004-07-03 08:18 [#01264431]

Its important for its unflinching graphic violance without
resorting to mondo-realism footage, in saying that, I Stand
Alone is a better film

i see, i guess you're right there, but i wouldn't call it
the most important in last decade :)

you don't know if you would get what?

name some more important
that actually changed something radically, or added
something big

irreversible :)

offline weltact from Taiwan on 2004-07-03 10:10 [#01264576]

yea
it looks nice, like microcosmos

but irreversible is actually portraing real life, in the
most realistic way ive ever seen, its just more then a
movie

and birds...
yea, theyre kul
i wanted to be a bird when i was a kid

comeon, be serious :)

offline tolstoyed from the ocean on 2004-07-03 10:13 [#01264578]
Points: 50073 Status: Moderator

well, i am being serious...it gives you a lot to think
about, perhaps you should see it. i watched a documentary on
how the film was made btw, and there were no tricks, except
for the trained birds...

you know, i feel sorry for helpless animals just as much as
i feel sorry for people...im just like that, see.

Yes memento had that kind of backwards structure. The only
difference is that it wasn't anticlimactic. The only new
thing that irreversible introduced was the camera work in
the initial scene and the excellent display of graphic
violence with the fire extinguisher.

offline tolstoyed from the ocean on 2004-07-03 10:22 [#01264594]

heh, you should see the film and get the idea...the way we
poluted the earth isn't exactly good for the birds/nature in
general. ahh

i think irreversible wd still be important enough even
without the first 10 minutes and the violence scenes

there r other things about the film that really matter

like the overall documentaryness in it

offline tolstoyed from the ocean on 2004-07-03 10:26 [#01264600]

that way of "documentaryness" you can spot in amores

I wouldn't call total lack of subtlety and realism... Some
critics do but it makes a film boring for me. And anyway
pseudo-"documentaryness" is hardly original in films. See
"la haine" for example. My posts have to do with what you
said about the film being the most important film of late.

I loved this movie, in an uneasy kind of way. Everything
about it is so meticulous and fitting. It makes you feel
'wrong' right from the start, and steadily goes from bad to
worse, right up untill the rape, and then it becomes
gorgeous.

Just a note, it wasn't actually done in one shot per scene.
They shot it in tiny sections, but cropped and spliced
seamlessly. In addition to being powerfull and brilliant, it
was technically amazing.
