I really like the Xen Cuts release and I want to hear more
of the Ninja Tune label.

What artist/release do you recommend me?

I already have: Amon Tobin (all), Irresistible Force,
Coldcut, The Shadow Years, Funkjazztical Tricknology and
some Mr Scruff

Another compilation:
Funkjazztical Tricknology

Good release:
Funki Porcini - Fast Asleep
(killer cover art and good dvd too!)

Cinematic orchestra -Motion and everyday.

The refried food series parts 3 and 4 of that are amazing.

Funkmaster: Motion is a bit more abstract than everyday but
it is still very good!

i'm a huge dose one fan even if he's bonkers...i've got
circle on vinyl and its awesome, and the track he does with
bomo bip on seed to sun is the standout track on a good

yeah, I mean a lot of people argue it isn't even hip hop and
its more rock, but to be honest wit sampling the lines are
so blurred these days its hard to say, and I reckon that's a
good thing

anticons made up of producers and mc's so you get different
artists worknig with different people off the label and
doing solo projects so the sound doesn't stay the say

I can't beleive no one has mentioned DJ Food. The last DJ
food album was the best I reckon, done by strictly kev and
pc, it was called kaleidoscope and is so lush.

Also Hexstatic produce some proper nice electro(nic) tunes,
which are rather good, and a welcome break from ninja's high
proportion of artists with a similar feel.

Also Coldcut have released a few wicked tracks (and a few
crap ones too-lisa stansfield anyone??) but let us play is a
great album, and let us replay is even better. and lets not
mention classics like beats and pieces!

Yo Dave. I finally ordered the PMC 06 Pro D... did it
yesterday and it should be here Friday. Man, I can't wait. I
was going to wait till next month, but almost everywhere has
now jumped on the £100 price hike bandwagon on it. I found
the last online place in the UK doing it for £345 and
ordered it from there before they increased the price.

Nice, thats about the amount my plain old PMC 06 A cost a
few years back! I expect a full report on how good it is.
I hope you will still be able to afford vinyl too. hehe.
its an expensive hobby for sure, but well worth it, although
I really need 2x1210s but the 700quid will take a huge chunk
out of my wallet, so perhaps I will wait. anyway, I hope you
have fun with it, dont forget if you want to adjust the cut
in time, you can mod it like I have.........

Basically, I now have to move the xfader about 1/2 a mil to
cut in/out, by taking out the xfader unit and adding some
small washers to the rail the fader runs along at each end,
ok aesthetically its not great as the travel is reduced
slightly and may look a bit off as it doesnt go straight to
the edge,but hey!

Nice- that's a good inovative mod. Hopefully I won't need to
do it on this one, I've read that with the sharpest curve
shape and sharpest cut in time it approaches the Technics
SHEX1200 cut in time.

For a full review check the board any time next week, I
probably won't shut up about it for a month. ;)

Don't suppose you know how to go about getting custom
faceplates mades (I'd not be looking to do it for a while!).
If I was still in high school, I could metalwork one myself,
but as I don't have access to the tools I suppose I'd have
to buy one. I've seen a couple you can buy, but it's pre
done art. I'd ideally want bright white one or slate grey
one, nothing fancy.

well, take out the 5 scres on the face. pozi drive #0 will
help there, pull it upwards, and the plastic tops on the
faders will pop off, now cover the transparent bit, and
respray it yourself. thats my advice, but if it were me, id
rather mod it to have send/return, but im just too much of a
gear-junkie/electronics buff, plus im crap at art.

I was initially a bit upset at having to give up my beloved
fx send/return and also mic ports, but in reality it'll be
chained into my 3 channel mixer so I can put the drum
machine and FX on that. Of course, I won't be able to FX one
deck but not the other (unless I fit it in serial between
one deck and the PMC 06), but I'm prepared to lose that
functionality.

I must admit, the new Raine one, 56 something or other one,
looks amazing and the fx loop is a bonus, but it's just too
expensive. If I'm still into it in 3 years or so I may sell
the 06 and get one of those instead (hopefully they'll be
cheaper by then).

My only concerns about respraying the included faceplate are
decreasing the resale value and also the extra layers of
paint (especially if I do it in white- that'd need 3 coats)
may narrow the slots enough to cause the pots/faders to
catch and run less smoothly.

You can buy custom ones for the 06 (see these), but
not the samurai version due to the extra 2 pots.

My other question is, is there an easy way to get the pots
off the hardware easily? On some mixers I know you just pull
them off like the faders, but on vestax the pots seem stuck
on. If I was going to spray it, I'd want to change the fader
pot (and up/xfader) colour as well...

The new one (Some of my best friends are DJs) is better than
the first, a lot more listenable. I'll often listen to it
all the way through, rather than just 1 or 2 tracks like
with Carpel Tunnel.

Fast Asleep is great late night music. If your mates are

you can easily respray the upfaders and crossfader, since
they pop off easily when you remove the faceplate. once the
faceplate is removed, you can cover the internals with paper
or something then spray the pots. The are glued on and I
wouldn't recommend removing them at all.

There is also probably enough clearance around the faders if
you are painting it, but If you think it is an issue, then
buy the standard 06 one , then drill the 2 extra holes for
the cfx controls, all you will need is to clamp it, drill a
pliot hole, then the proper one and finish it all off.
