i think i'm done here

offline Amnesiac from ERIE (United States) on 2004-01-22 18:15 [#01044874]

this board went from a valueable resource for Aphex Twin
and IDM info to total and complete shit. Nonsense posts and
inside joke upon inside joke of shit that make no sense.

Unless I'm posting about some completely obscure album or
how wet my farts are I get ignored.

So, it's been nice, but I'm done here.

Aw c'mon. sometimes theres just nothing better to talk
about. with the exception of a few losers on here that NEVER
have anything music related to talk about, i dont think its
THAT bad. sit down. stay a while.

you can't expect people to talk about ONLY music... the
thread just wouldn't survive... even though we all love
music, there are more things to life... and it's just
natural for people to talk about those other thigns when a
community like this forms!

it has been pretty dim around here lately. music posts
rehashing the same "isn't that boc song great" sentiments
and endless, sad in-jokes, pointless threads and lame,
sophomoric humor.
it seems like a large wave of bullshit is cresting here
now...

as far as music discussion goes, part of the difficulty is
that there are so many releases. the majority of people
haven't heard any given record up for discussion, unless
it's boc or afx or something. can't blame anyone for
that...

it's good to take a break when you get sick of it, though.

The scene for me was missing great moving releases. It's
been awhile since i have heard something that was
tremendously amazing. Remember the first time you heard the
richard D james album? That album is the whole reason i am
here.

I learned about Rephlex, Warp, Skam. Many things and
artists. Over time the releases seemed to have lacked
quality. Or maybe i should say "the type of quality that i
came to expect".

there's no shortage of great music, i've heard a lot of
great records in the past few years, but nothing that
everyone has heard like afx.

i don't mean to portray myself as someone who's heard every
record under the sun. i don't use file sharing, and there
are many records mentioned here that i'll likely never have
the opportunity to hear.

i do credit xltronic with tipping me about my bloody
valentine's upcoming retrospective album on sony, with
unreleased tracks, so there's something good.

you know what? heres what ill start doing to do my part.

i spend at least a hundred dollars a weeks on vinyl and
cd's. i could spend all fucking day talking about all the
diverse IDM records i buy. but honestly ive tried it before,
and got no response. either because no has heard of that
perticular record or just doesnt care. tomorrow (friday) is
going to be a huge day at the rekkid store. i plan on
dropping at least two bills. theres a ton of new releases
and i got a bunch of special orders coming in. my guy gets
all his shit the friday before the week new stuff actually
comes out. sometimes even before that. like luke vibert
Yoseph. i had that 2 weeks in advance.

If everyone does the same, we should have MUCH to talk
about.

hevquip, is this the sort of shit you've been seeing every
time you've come here for the past five years? i think i
have a theory about where it comes from ...

"it consists of stealing time.

it does not involve the following:
times machines or clocks.

just those two things it does not involve.
you may all make guesses. all answers are pending until they

are not. the winner will be announced by me when i feel like

announcing the winner, if i choose to have a winner. i may
not.

thank you and there will be no further inquiries from
contestants."

a lot of the threads on here are about things i dont want to
read about-

-music making equipment
-members own songs
-obscure records that i will never get a chance to hear
-anything to do with xlt vibes/ae contest/gallery/anything
to do with the board
-threads that are too childish for me (but there arent
many)
-threads about politics or news from other countrys

added together these are the majority of posts, but i still
keep coming here whenever i can, because the minority of
posts that arent the above are usually great...
