Its a bit different. The movie focused on Renton while in the book we see every characters viewpoint. Ofcourse everyone is a fucking cunt and they hate each other-typical Welsh- definetely didnt see that in the movie. I havent checked out porno yet but I've read filth and its absolutely fucked up (the ending let me down though).

Trainspotting was also a bit harder to read than his later books.

I loved Trainspotting and Porno. It took me a while to adjust to the dialect but once I did it was smooth sailing.
The film Trainspotting is pretty faithful to the book in that every idea in the movie was pulled directly the book, just changed up a bit. For example the breakfast/shit scene didn't happen to Spud, it was some other guy. Tommy didn't die from Toxiplasmosis(?), someone else did. Sickboy was the one who shot the dog, and he was alone. It wasn't Allison's baby who died, it was some other girl's. The sequence of events was different. ETC.

I read somewhere that Welsh is a part time Ibiza dj. Is that true?

Sort of, large parts of 'Glue' are inspired by his Ibiza wanderings where he would do spontaneous sets. I don't think he's exactly a professional though.
This book: Irvine's best.

Nah, Glue was shite. Too full of clubbing/raver cliches. I'm glad he returned to form with Porno.
He's currently scripting a film about Cardiff City's notorious Soul Crew firm. So fuck all you Jack bastards.

Well there aren't that many cringeworthy cliches in it, mostly it's confined to when they go to France. And it's only one character as well. I was glued to it for the duration. Ahem.
And that Soul Crew thing has been in limbo for ages, probably did some investigating and realised they were all a bunch of pussies.

Oh, I see now it looks like I was referring to Glue. No, I was talking about Trainspotting being his best. The worst I thought was Ecstacy, really poor.

i went through a period years ago of reading all welsh's books..
the scottish dialect isn't hard to pick up at all. you just have to read it as it would be spoken (if that makes sense)..
trainspotting is definitely worth reading. one of his best.
also read ecstasy, acid house, filth, marabou stork nightmares - some are better than others. think i overdosed on his work.. it all gets a bit samey after a while. everyone despises everyone else. hardly anyone has any reeemable traits. some have very (darkly) funny moments, but sometimes you get the feeling that welsh is just trying as hard as he can to shock. like a spoiled child.
a friend of mine read porno when it came out & recommended it though. so i might pick up a welsh book again, after a break of about 4 years or so.
to re-iterate : definitely read trainspotting if youre interested in irvine welsh. it contains a lot more than the film could fit in. out of all his books that ive read, it probably has the most depth.
