For those of you who record music into your computer, what
equipment do you use to actually get the sound into the
computer? soundcards, mixers, EQ's, etc etc.. I'm just
interested in what people around here are doing to bridge
the gap between synth and computer.

before my setup will be record worthy, as it is now all I've
got is my EX5 synth, Cubase SX and some midi cables.. not
very far along am I?

i'm not a good resource for technical information, and i
don't record directly to my computer. anyway, in case
you're interested, i have a g4, and use reason, sound
studio, and occasionally thonk, protools free, rebirth and
dsp quattro. for sampling sounds and phrases i record
directly to a tascam cd recorder through a mixer. i also
use a fender stratocaster with a malfunctioning peavey amp,
and an ancient microphone from radioshack.

i run all my synths and my pc through my mixer, mix it all
together, and record it to dat.

once i have a decent mix on dat, i run it back into the
computer and record it into soundforge.

burn cds

mixer? what is 'dat'? please elaborate on your set up. :)

offline evolume from seattle (United States) on 2004-01-21 17:07 [#01043362]

roland juno 106
fender P Bass (mexican)
vestax mixer
technics 1200 mk
m-audio quattro usb audio/midi interface
amd athalon 750mhz 256k ram (crappy)
acid pro 4.0
soundforge 6.0
ableton live 2
reason
fruityloops
T-Racks

i don't necessarily use all this stuff for each track. i am
phasing out using Acid pro now that i have ableton live and
i've just started dabbling in Reason. FLoops i find is good
for just kinda sketching out songs and cutting some loops
but i don't really use it for my serious editing and
processing. more just as a loop/sound generator. same deal
with Reason (so far).

i've been having wierd problems with T-Racks so i've kinda
stopped using it. For some reason, i can't get it to open
wave files anymore...?

where things are expensive unfortunatly.

A VCR and a videotape, that's probably been recorded over a
dozen times.

so if I got that, would i be able to run my ex5 to it just
to use its internal soundcard? I'd much rather play my full
76 key keyboard than that little thing. ;)

nobsmuggler: that link for creative didnt work.

hey 25keys is all you need man. it's also good for a live
setup and to take your music-making anywhere with a laptop
and ozone.

okay well a fraudulent transaction was made with my bank
account so there is 290 dollars missing... it was a payment
made to Pace University in NEW YORK and I pointed it out to
the bank that my card is a campus card for UCF in ORLANDO,
FLORIDA. Now I just have to wait a few weeks for those
fucktards to give me my money back. Luckily I just got my
last paycheck from working over christmas, so once I get
that deposited I should still have enough to get me an
ozone. :)
