i figured i'd push myself to the 1300 mark before i went to
bed...

this is a fuckin' awesome record... came out in 2002 on City
Centre Offices (home to stuff like Arovane, Ulrich Schnauss,
Christian Kleine, etc.)...

beautiful dark downtempo... the whole album gots a sexy
post-trip-hop vibe like that song "My Angel Rocks Back and
Forth" by Four Tet... it makes for perfect listening late at
night... my fantasy is to play it at some artsy, low-lit
after-hours bar, where you can see the bass bins push smoke
across the room...
-please check it out if you haven't

i sense that someone online right now will check this out
because they like downtempo, and are looking for something
new
*bump*

WHOOO!
(it's actually probably a bit more minimal... but i think
it's great...)

damn, that's too bad. minimal isn't exactly my thing,
lately. ah, i'll still check it.

*fires up soulseek*

it's all about the vibe man! the vibe! this isn't academic
minimalism we're talkin' about here... just a real blunted
downtempo vibe with dark-type guitars... another point of
reference might be something like the dark guitar lines on
Massive Attack's Mezzanine

i would... but actually i don't have it on the computer... i
have the vinyl... i could try and rip my burnt copy... but
it's in pretty rough shape... i'll let you know if i can...
otherwise... just throw it on your wishlist... it'll be
found eventually, with slsk it's all about persistence...

i was in at blackbyrd, and they got a nice shipment of stuff

Listen my friend... Listen... in fact i think he may still
have a copy of it on CD...

-fans of Susumu Yokota also might like this release

...and i'd just like to clarify that i am fully aware that
this thread makes me look very very pathetic and
obnoxious...

i wish i lived closer to Listen. and DV8 too (i dunno how
good this one is). i really have no way to get there except
bus. and i dunno the routes for that part of town :(

yeah, it's just a bit out of the way unfortunately... he's
been thinking of moving closer to downtown... but probably
won't happen for a while...
there are quite a few buses that will get you there...
basically from jasper ave (close to the lrt...) you can take
either the 5 or the 135 to westmount, and it will pass by...
the 3 and the 7 also run past it...
Dv8 is pretty much just a club techno-type store...probably
has some interesting singles... but not really the place to
go in search of albums... Sound Connection is very close to
dv8 and it has tonnes of cool old rock and stuff...

if you know where southgate is (i'd be surprised if you
didn't), which buses go from there to around Listen? or from
west ed, if that would be easier, but it's a little bit
harder for me to get to w.e.m. if you could help me out a
bit, i'd appreciate it so much, since i can never understand
the damn bus schedules :P even from the u of a station, if
that is possible :) i know listen is worth the trip!

from the u of a station... take the train to corona... exit
the train station through one of the jasper ave westbound
entrances (one will put you outside next to a boston pizza
(on the same side of the street), in front of a parking
lot... the other entrance will put you in front of a food
joint (donairs? pizza?)... take either the 135 or the 5
(both buses will say westmount as destination), and these
buses will drive down jasper, take a right at 124th
street... and then you get off just before you pass 107th
ave... you can pull the cord to get off when you see an
Albert's restaurant on the other side of the street...
listen is right on the corner of 124th and 107th... talk
with the owner, he is nice...

i just gave this a first listen and some tunes really sound
like slow-downed mezzanine tunes (no vocals tho), and it
sounds much more electronica to mezzanine, which is also
nice. actually it reminds me a bit of balago who are one of
my favourite "experimental" post rock, guitar+electronica
bands.
nice album, and i only heard it for the 1st time :)

"Paraport" is the album of the week on Boomkat. Very good.
CCO is my favourite label atm.
