Drukqs question

man-frayed from seattle on 2001-12-10 03:13 [#00059411]

I've heard that slightly slowing down some tracks on drukqs
makes them more enjoyable/understandable/etc. has anyone
heard this? anyone tried it?
anyone at all?

Taxiderm on 2001-12-10 03:16 [#00059415]

Actually, I found that if you slowed them down any more,
they actually cause the listener to eject into a lucid
sleepstate where they can have dream meetings with all the
warp signees (exept for squarepusher, no one can get ahold
of that guy).

Apearantly this is the only way for even the head guys at
warp to even talk to BoC.

lol i slowed the whole equation song down (in doing so not
changing the pitch but just stretching the song out) and it
sounded good. Maby just maby thats how he makes his fast
bits so damn fast and complex. It is fun tho to hear his
stuff stretched out, kidna getting right down to the basics
(well as basic as you can get with aphex).

Why do you think most of the trax in the RDJ album were so
short?

Taxiderm on 2001-12-10 03:21 [#00059420]

Honestly tho, a lot of rdj's drill n bass stuff is just
jungle written at a lower bpm than it is played at. Try
slowing down autechre for the same result, and it still
stays complex.

hmmm

i'm not one for making music but i must try that. The hard
part will be getting used to the lower pitch or if you just
squat it all up when your done, the longer sounding drums.

Taxiderm on 2001-12-10 03:28 [#00059424]

Well, I was saying that more for dialectical porposes than
anything else... sorry.

Taxiderm on 2001-12-10 03:29 [#00059425]

and any cracked version of cool edit should give you the
pitch stretch without length stretch and vice versa.

how do you think the fast bits are made tho.... My guess is
that he lays down one drum and listens to it then adds more
and more till it sounds right, then moves on to the next
part.

Prolly like a lot of other musicians do... when he is
constructing a beat, he just starts it off at a certain
bpm... then writes a bit. Speeds it up, sees how he feels
about it... if it doesn't work for him, he prolly either
rearanges it a bit for the new tempo, scraps it, or just
sees if it works in another bpm. Then he prolly does things
like sample trimming (that 1/50th of a second gap just
before the base of the can really become noticable at a
high bpm). and works on the melody a bit. Then proceeds as
one would expect in such a situation.

What would be the easiest way to go about listening to my
mp3s at a lower speed?

Taxiderm on 2001-12-10 04:15 [#00059466]

I think getting a crack for the studio version of NI
Tracktor would do the trick for you. You can also beatmix
shit and such with it.

I use the Chronotron plugin to make songs faster/slower.
Beatles songs sound great sped up, same with the very SLOW
AND PLODDING Floyd.

Xanatos from NYC on 2001-12-10 07:01 [#00059506]

Where could I obtain this chronotron plugin?

St Michaels Mix sounds dope when slowed down to 110 bpm at
least the first part of the track.
