When was the first time you heard Aphex and what album/song was it?

MO 2 on 2001-12-09 06:36 [#00059141]

Mine was in 1996 when my friends played "Milkman" over and
over again and argued if he was saying "I would like some
milk from the milkman's wife's tits" .....or "milkman's
moist tits"

I downloaded Windowlicker after seeing it mentioned in a Kid
A review. I was underwhelmed! But learned to love it within
the hour.

i was at the funkstorung website reading a review and it
said if you like funkstorung you would like aphex twin and
autechre. so i went to napster and downloaded some aphex
and some autechre. didn't like the autechre. the first
song i heard was complex equation, which blew my mind. the
next was polynomial c which also blew my mind. after that i
was hooked.

Alberto Balsalm, my older brother used to play it on repeat
every morning when he got ready for school.

Frothbottom from New York on 2001-12-09 21:23 [#00059242]

Alberto Balsalm. It's still my favourite Aphex Twin track.

About 1997, I saw the Come to Daddy Video on MTV2 when I
came in bombed at about 4am with some friends after we'd
been clubbing. It was great.

I first thought it said "milkman's washed hands". I was
really searching for interesting unconventional weird music,
at the time I was looking for evil music and an evil genius
was particularly interesting just because a person who was
really smart yet chose the path of evil made you think, and
was browsing through Rolling Stone magazine and it was the
name that caught my attention. I then read reviews on the
internet and I forget if I bought Richard D. James album or
SawII first. But for quite awhile Richard D. James album was
by far the most interesting thing I'd ever heard, my
favorite composition ever being "4".

Ceri JC on 2001-12-09 22:38 [#00059287]

I don't think Rich is actually evil like Marilyn Manson, for
example, is. He's just a bit mischevious and a sense of
humour that the moral majority would brand as sick, but is
really quite harmless. I wouldn't even go so far as to say
it's subversive.

m on 2001-12-09 22:41 [#00059292]

Yeah, I know, I think it was the cover of the RDJ album,
that guy just looks evil. I was also into flavour of the
weak by front line assembly at the time because it was evil.

Taxiderm on 2001-12-09 23:53 [#00059337]

It was to cure a weakling child off of the rdj album. And I
absolutely hated it. Tried to listen 15 times, and I still
hated it. It took me a long time to get into RDJ. I kinda
lost touch with the part that was right into him some time
ago... but still appreciate it.

I love me some a dat autechre tho... I really don't see how
people could not dig off of it. Silly people.

The_Funkmaster from Newfoundland, Canada on 2001-12-10 02:15 [#00059364]

well the first song I heard was Come to Daddy one night on
The Wedge... but the first song that really introduced me to
his music, that sparked an interest, was heliosphan which a
friend of mine sent me...

PearlsGirrl from chicago on 2001-12-10 02:19 [#00059367]

i think it was like 95 or 96. the mtv amp cd came out and i
heard girl/boy song. i then bought the rdj album and was
hooked from then on :)

I remember "Powerpill pacman" in the 1992/3 on the radio but
I didn't now he was Richard...

The same story for Untitled#2 from Analogue Bubblebath 2 in
the 1994 and Audax Powder from Polygon Window, I listened
these songs in a Disco but I didn't know who was he...

Now, I understand everything about my past and I recognized
every track...

WooÆ’er
