I'm looking for an mp3 player on a budget, I need one that
can hold at least 128mb of songs... that's really my only
requirement. I just want something to have enough space for
a good "walking around campus" mix, as the one I have now
with 12mb of onboard memory (it was a gift from a friend who
just happened to have Aphex Twin on it already, so for the
time being it has sufficed). It has no cord to hook it up to
the computer so I can't change which songs are on it. What
mp3 players would you recommend in the 50-60 dollar ebay
range that are half decent?

I'm looking at a Rio 800 on ebay right now which has 128mb
and comes with a charger (i hate constantly paying for
batteries), Rio's are pretty good aren't they?

ok well, assume for creative purposes that this thread does
not include the Ipod... what is the next best?

At the beginning of your post i had a sure fire player for
you, but then came upon your price range and it got shot
down. for 50 - 60 bucks, i really wouldnt worry so much as
to whats the best. i would worry about what you can FIND for
that amount.

i was going to tell you to get the phatnoise phatbox its got
128mb or more, and supports ogg, ie better quality less
space. but its like 130.

just get an ipod.

well, 60 bucks will get you a 100 dollar mp3 player on
ebay... so I mean I'm still looking for recommendations..
Thanks btw. :)

I do have a cd burner, but I prefer the smallness of actual
mp3 players, cd players dont fit into my pockets very well.

i've mentioned this in another thread but, if you are on a
tight budget, a portable cd player that plays mp3's is a
good bet. i got one for around $55-60. a panasonic. on 2
AA batteries, it will play maybe 30 hours. you can get
about 125 tracks on 1 cd. it doesn't skip. and blank cd's
are hella cheap.

of couse it's much bigger than an i-pod, but it's about 20%
of the price.

yeah thats what i did when i couldnt afford an ipod. Got
myself a nice sony discman mp3 player. It's about the same
size as a cd so it fits fine in my jacket pocket and i like
being able to use audio cd's for the best sound quality.
