I just bought Endtroducing on an impulse-buy, and I've got
to say.. IT'S GREAT!

I also bought Tricky - (whateverthefirstalbumiscalled), but
I haven't listened to it yet.

i found endtroducing boring at first, but i got to like the
shorter tracks, and stem/long stem. The others like What
does your soul look like are a little tedious for me.

Yeah, well.. if you listen closely, you'll hear that it
isn't all that repetitive. There are small changes all the
time.

i know that, i didnt mean to imply that it was looped...but
its still drags on too far.

bought any albums yet though... might start with Private
Press.

as far as i know most of the music for psyence fiction was
his. I don't know why he's not on the new unkle album, but
before unkle was known as james lavelle+dj shadow

It's not DJ Shadow's music!!

Brainfreeze is a mix of all 60's and 70's soul and funk
stuff...

Product Placement has all kinda of stuff, but still old
music.

i prefer endtroducing to private press. "building steam from
a grain of salt" is great. preempive strike has some good
tracks on it too. not that i don't like private press. saw
shadow live in oct2002 on his first "proper" live tour.. was
pretty impressive + some of the reworkings of private press
were better than the album versions.

i seem to remember reading something in which shadow said he
really hadnt enjoyed the process of making psyence fiction
as one half of unkle. he did all the production + most of
the music. lavelle was "creative director" - it basically
sounded like he had ideas for samples (particularly the film
dialogue), the tone of the album + the collaborations.
shadow basically had to work around that.
he said he thought the album contained some of his best
work, but a lot of his worst + that he was keen to return to
solo work (i think the interview was conducted around the
time he was working on the quannum spectrum lp + handsome
boy modelling school, so he'd been collaborating for quite
some time)..

personally, i think maxinquaye is tricky's best effort.
easily.
