This album is so much to take in, I've heard it about 5
times now and its only starting to make sense. There are
loads of different styles on it and very little tracks that
sound the same as each other its so varied, dare it say it,
like Drukqs.
Steinbolt and An Arched Pathway have harsh sounds and
extremely fucked structures and they seem alien to me, there
are lots of little inconsequential but awesome bass-heavy
filler tracks and there are the Hard Normal Daddy style
crowd-pleasing epics like Tetra-Sync and Ultravisitor and
some neo-DYKS style stuff like 50 Cycles and Telluric Piece.

I really love parts of it and I'm unsure about others so I
can't really rank it in terms of the other albums yet. I'm
sure it'll start to make sense by March 8th.

Mr Funkmaster recommended suggested Iambic 9 Poetry, so I
listened to it and liked it.

*goes to download the rest*

My copy of Squarewindow showed up yesterday. I didn't
realise it had been downgraded from an EP to just a promo
item.

Since I haven't downloaded anything yet, Ultravisitor (the
track) sounds very good indeed.

i'm getting kinda psyched for this release now. has anyone
heard what's going to be on the 3" cd that comes with the
pre-order? i really hope it's the two tracks on the
squarewindow ep and perhaps something else.

Its bastard good, love the two guitar tracks, Iambic 9 and
Tommib Help Bus are phenomenal. Not really feeling
Steinbolt, otherwise I love it.

"the closest comparison I could make to this record is
bitches brew by miles davis. yes, sonically and musically
they are far apart, despite the obvious influences. but they
are both soundtracks to very personal obsessions, the result
of an artist who refuses to stay still and let the public
catch up. and they are both monumental, flawed, remarkable
albums. squarepusher could have spent the next five years
running over ground he’s already covered – his
back catalogue is already diverse enough for that. but
he’s moving further and further out, probing the
possibilities, staking out exploratory ground for others to
expand upon and make more palatable, more commercial. when
bitches brew was released, it confused a lot of people
– it was a messy, sprawling thing and no-one really
knew what to do with it. but look back now and it sows the
seeds for so many musical forms – jungle, drum and
bass, remix culture and the whole damn thing. give it five
years and there’s a fair chance we’ll be looking
back on ultravisitor in much the same way.

Mine just came in the mail. So far it's great. Really like
the bass excursions mixed in. Wierd that three tracks are
exactly 8:33 long.
This will get a lot of listening to.

Mine came today. I haven't really given it a good listen but
Steinbolt, Tetra Sync and Iambic 9 Poetry are all excellent.
The 3" is ok, Abacus 2 should have been on Ultravisitor imo,
excellent song.

Although I like the fact that the record came today they
still managed to fuck up my name:

I nearly bought this LP the other day, but something stopped
me.....
There are a couple of absolutely briliant tracks which, make
me thank God, that I am not deaf. e.g.
Ultravisitor, Tetra-Sync.

But there are a lot of filler tracks, which unlike the
drukqs 'filler' tracks and piano bits, these sound like live
jamming in your room being recorded.
It reminds me of someone playing around trying to discover
new melodies and sounds, who has recorded there experiment
for later review. However, I for one don't wanna hear these
experiments.e.g.telluric piece

Then there are things like 50 cycles, which has the
re-emmergence of the thug rap, which does my head in.

Iambic 9 poetry sounds like it is lifted straight from hard
normal daddy. It is a good track, but way to similar to the
aforementioned album.

Same with menelec, way to similar to other stuff he has
done, but still a good song.

c-town smash has some excellent bass on it, but there should
in my opinion only be one song with bass like this, not
more, e.g. 'an arched pathway'.

district line ii sounds very similar to approximately
10million other songs.

steinbolt is alright, I quite like that one, but not as much
as ultravisitor,tetra-sync.

----------
So, basically, don't get me wrong, I do like this a lot, but
a few tracks are so similar to other stuff, I feel like I
own them already.
A few tracks seem like real filler-sort of "hmm can't do a
40 min cd...... I know what to do!"
A few tracks knocked my socks off, and are superb.

So all in all, I was a bit dissapointed. Which is such a
shame!

p.s.
Tom-please release a 12" with ultravisitor(the track) and
tetra-sync for me to dj with. Cheers mate

"not to mention the perfect sound quality"

> really?
well, it's normal CD quality... but i didn't find a real
difference in sound between the actual CD and the mp3s i had
downloaded (unlike some other albums, Kid A by Radiohead for
example... Kid A has a great sound quality or mastering or
whatever it is : ))
and i must set the volume higher than in most CDs. but well
that's no big deal ^^

i couldn't tell which tracks are my favourite, but Iambic 9
Poetry is great...

hmm... *gives a quick listen to all tracks to remember which
are which*

Ultravisitor: probably the best "live" track on the
album after Tetra-Sync! very nice... 9/10

I Fulcrum: nice one, though not absolutely
unforgettable. 7.5/10

Iambic 9 Poetry: great. one of my very favourite >[]
tracks, if not THE favourite of mine! 10/10

Andrei: yes, i like the style - it isn't any original
as music, but as a >[] track it is, unlike anything he had
done before... a very nice intermission! 8.25/10

50 Cycles: one of my favourites on the album, imo
much better "rappy" >[] track than Do You Know Squarepusher?
(which i use to like but bores and annoys me now). the
ending though is not that memorable, too bad. 8.25/10

Menelec: is this a remix of Go Plastic? anyway,
pretty good. 7.5/10

C-Town Smash: a little mono-instrumental (or almost)
thing, more an intermission than a real track but not
unpleasant! 7/10

Steinbolt: aggressive but kinda cool, i like the
guitar-like melody/riff (?) at the beginning... and some
other parts... it could have been shorter though. 7.2/10

An Arched Pathway: i do not think this track was
*necessary*, it isn't bad but nothing that isn't heard
elsewhere with the other tracks.... 7/10

Telluric Piece: hmmm.... i didn't even notice this
one when i was listening to the album, sounds like a part of
another track or something... now that i hear it, it's
pretty good... 7.5/10

District Line II: is it just me or does this track
sounds quite a lot like Venetian Snares in parts?? 6.5/10

Circlewave: ok, though not one of my favourites...
6.5/70

Tetra-Sync: very good one, very good rhythm and
melody! =) 9.5/10

Tommib Help Buss: bah, i don't like the track title.
the track itself is a bit like a lullaby. not one of my
favourites. 6.5/10

Everyday I Love: (cf. Andrei) : ) 8.25/10

by the way, not the track but the name "I Fulcrum"
appeared twice in my dreams... i don't remember, i think
once it was something written in arabic in Prince Of Persia
which read "I Fulcrum" (only in my dream of course), the
other time i forgot ' _'

that's weird.

i'm not best fan of >[] but this album is really a
masterpiece and i can't stop to listen it.

track1 'ultravisitor' is good, and in the final minutes
become wonderful! what a great apocalyptic melody!

track3 is another great track, but i think tom jenkinson's
class explode during track13 'tetra-sync'.

and what about 'sqaure-window' 3"cd? another fuckin' great
mini work signed by tom.

probably i should become a real >[] fan...

i wasn't that enthousiastic when i heard about the new SP,
but then my girl bought me this cd and now i'm lovin' it
more and more :)

i'm not that much of a SP fan and most other albums/ep's i
have by him contain a lot of weak/filler tracks imo, but
this album is quite good,
a nice combination of his bass skills and his wicked
beatwork

recommended!

its a very good release, but i dont think its:
A) best of 04 or
B) best sp has released.

that being said it is one of my favorite albums in a long
time, although i have to skip some of the noise tracks
(namely 9 and 10, but that is all) i can listen from the
whole album from start to finish, but it takes me more than
one sitting. my fav track is district line II, he takes what
he did in go plastic and expands on it, which he should do
more of imo
