sound forge is good for anything, you could use it's built in synthesiser..... it works excellent for me

what do you mean .. sequence it - or create it - or both??
any half decent VST instrument/synth (plenty free ones around) combined with some form of VST sequencer would prolly be best ?? But there are plenty other ways to do it.
But it is probably my prefered method of doing so .. check out http://www.mp3.com/polcXd - i used free VST synth to do them - what I consider mainly ambient bass lines. :)
But sort of depends what youre going for and how much dosh you willin to splash

i use both, my keys and an "original" bass - the bass is better to play for me, cause i started with guitars, but the keys are weirder in some way ... o.k., depends on what you´re doing with the sound afterwards - bass is more for the funk, keys are more for the ambient ... um, dunno, guess i didn´t really help, sorry ... ;-A
