I run this site here for the actress Tish Potter.

Part of my job is to screen her fan email and forward it on.
This afternoon I received an email from a teenage girl who
is feeling suicidal and asking Tish for help.

Question is, should I forward it?

take her into deep conversation- whats the reason, ask about
problems, and such.
Focus her attention and give a sign that there is someone
who want to help - and tell in some way that suicide is not
a point.

But is it fair on Tish to expect her to deal with it?

well if the girl kills herself, and she finds out that you
withheld the letter... how do you think she'd feel?

pretending this actress is worse thing you could do - just
imagine what would happen if the girl will suddenly know

if you want advice i can ask my girlfriends sister what to
do - shes psychiatrist

but this could take some time - you should ask about
important things before therapy - age, hobbies, inner life,
stuff like that

I have no intention of asking her anything. Its more a
question of passing her email on to the right person.

i say pass it on.

it's what youre there to do, but id also draw her attention
specifically to this email, asap.

its not her responsibility, but obviously this girl is
looking to someone for help, and sometimes all a person like
that needs is to know theyve been heard (especially by
someone they look up to).

if this is a yong girl who maybe has some issues, i mean...
this actress lady cant solve them, true... but... its like
one of them robots that gets stuck in a corner.

maybe she can get the girl out of the corner and sailing in
the right direction?

i dont know. this is what i can honestly say i would do.

i mean to say, you cant just look at whether or not you can
"save" this girl from death.

a doctor, for instance, isnt worried about denying death.
death is innevitable.

but he is concerned with making life better and stronger
until its all used up.

all you have to do is pass it on. mission accomplished.

and then this woman plays her part.

but after that, its done.

Trish seems like kind of a bizarre/random person to send a
suicide letter too. Whats up with that? Any particular
reason that you know of?

Tish has lots of teenage girl fans, mainly because Holby
City is watched by lots of teenage girls. In fact, I would
estimate that about 80% of her fanmail comes from that
demographic.

Her character appeals to them because she's the most
'together', strong female in it and thus something of a role
model. She gets quite a few letters from girls saying they
want to become doctors and surgeons because of her.

The other 20% is mainly made up of men who want signed
photos. It's quite funny really because there's always a
surge in traffic to the site at 9pm on a Tuesday followed by
a bunch of fanmail from guys.

Most girls tend to send their fanmail on Saturday mornings,
no idea why that is though.

The fake ones are easy to spot, I see plenty of them and
they make it as far as the 'Trash' folder, along with all
the dirty ones ;)
