there was some thread that was entitled "for k-maty only"
and people just kept saying it and stuff and it escillated
and became the inside/not-so-inside joke that it is today

nah, it was ecandniarb....was reading an old email from the
designer, Paul Nicholson, yesterday...

Apparently, it was a font he was messing around with & cam
up with the AFX logo & font...

BTW he's an old friend of Richs; went to Kingston studying
Graphic Design....

From email abck in 1999 :

I met Richard during the Autumn term of 1991. We were
both at Kingston Upon Thames University where I was studying
Graphic Design. Our shared interest in Techno meant that we
became good friends and started hanging out.

The logo that Aphex uses was a modification of a typeface
that I was working on. The origins of the typeface was to
try and create an alphabet that looked alien or 'not of this
world'.
....

Straight from the horses mouth, as they say.....

It reminds me of:

* Colin
* My mother
* False China
* Dead pigeons
* Robot invasions
* Peeled potatoes
* Man in wheelchair
* Pissmarks on the wall
* And still your heart beats
* Throwing clothes over the wall
* The time he fell in the mud and we all laughed

If you turn the picture sideways, yes, it does bare some
resemblance to the aphex logo...

How did I type com instead of .co.uk

It should have been a link to prototype21's website at
p21.co.uk not p21.com

Paul Nicholson now does Terratag which is part of p21.

I think Jand knew what I meant though :P
