on a similar note to the bowie thing

i'm not usually a person to call someone a sell out but him
performing with the sex pistols at the jubilee took the
piss...maybe it was meant to be ironic or something but
seems to me that it just proves he's 'subserviant' or
whatever to the monarchy in the end

and didnt he also recieve an honour recently?

i've more respect for bowie though, he's no sting..

thing about lydon is, he'll wax lyrical & intellectualise
about all sorts of things - but he has a sense of humour..
so in the end he'll take the piss by doing exactly what
"johnny rotten" shouldnt do and (more importantly) take the
cheque.. why do you think the ill advised pistols reunion
gigs were monickerd "the filthy lucre tour" (after a
newspaper headline following their interview with bill
grundy)?

yeah but surely they wanted to be taken seriously at one
point and had real political views...that's how they
started

fair enough stand from a distance and take the piss, but
don't say you're at the centre of a movement and then do
completely the opposite!?

How long did 'Punk' last in england acrid?

i think punk collapses itself.

well done on using parenthesis jivverdicker..
'punk' is a nonsense

it was meant to be about a diy attitude to music (just like
techno & electronica began), about individuality &
resentment towards institutionalised ideals..
only it was turned ito a fashion movement. there were punk
outfits, punk haircuts etc. which sort of defeats the point
of autonomy from any kind of system.
it didnt help that most of the bands were more interested in
the clothes & the attitude than actually learning to play
their instrument or display any kind of
innovation/individuality in their music.
s'pose thats the great irony. if you get too many people
trying to do something 'different', they all end up doing
the same thing..

he's one half of coldcut...who are quite political

they were on newsnight a while back talking about the
dangers of clearchannel (an american company) taking over
the uk radio stations

if you look at the bottom of those big billboards you'll
probably see a lot owned by clearchannel

'punk' the word is soo often used. Presently it means
nothing to me. I am 100% DIY. It's not a mohawk, pink dye
in your hair or pretend 'IDM'. I release music I want to
hear, I play at venues I want to play. I've done this since
I was 17

i play punk in the sense that:

it sounds like it
i'm too lazy to play my guitar really well
i want to ROCK PEOPLE
i play very few, uncomplicated chords in one song.

the best 'punk' album (imo) is the vastly underrated and
unknown "dirk wears white sox" by a then unkonwn band called
adam & thr ants. shortly after this was recorded the
drummer, bassist & guitarist were stolen by malcolm maclaren
(link!) to form bow wow wow. adam & the ants then reformed
and became more pop-oriented. i couldnt recommend this album
less.
