tenkeymind

It's only 39 seconds of something I am working on...but does
it sound like ae...which is what I am after.

I won't bump this at all, but a few opinions would be
appreciated.

Oh and don't slate me for wanting it to sound like someone
else...it is just I am using something new and I was just
wondering whether I could do it.

The drum sequencing is this stupid package I have been
working on...I am beginning to think it would probably be
better just using already made stuff :P

in the manner of that VVIVVIVIVIVIVIVVVIVIVIIIVIVIV track on
Draft? :)

No. I wouldn't say it sounded like Autechre. Richard Devine
and Eight Frozen Modules do a far better impersonation.
However, what I would say is that it sounded pretty good
with decent production. Slightly generic -- you gotta
produce something a little different these days to get
noticed above the sheer durge of electronic music. Still
pretty good though.

It sound generic because I haven't done anything with it yet
:P

I am pissed off because I can come up with ideas for tracks
and I still can't execute them the way I want. And I have a
tension headache I think

yeah it sound like ae - i like beats very much- organs are
good too - you can add more low pad's , or some melody (
somethin which is repetative, but in different rhythm that
hole track ( i dont know -maybe 3/4 ? )- this wil make the
traclk to look little chaotic which is very Ae i think.
but you should leave beats- they are good enough

let me know when its finished

btw- my hands are shaking-sorry for letter mistakes

only on melodic phases - like i said beats are enough- at
least for me. i dont know - 1,2 lines, low pads, maybe
little distortion
try to experiment- do someyhin tha you didnt heard before-
and dont care if it will be not liked by anyone- it should
be liked by you

if will gladly burn it and put it into my discman

Receipe for Autechre.

Place half a dozen ball-bearings in an empty washing machine
and run on the medium cycle.

Viola!

well. i'd say it was autechre-ish aside from the organ.
sounded generic-y (hah. listen to me. that's silly).
however, i quite enjoyed the 39 seconds you've given us. i
now demand MORE. back to work!

it wasn't just a beat...I am working on this track at the
moment :P

Try taking the reverb off, change the analog tom noise to
something else and put a heavy compressor over the lot.

not to wreck the topic but first off, thanks for those 2 b
tracks, secondly the electro(clash?) one is fun but m'lady
and i both think it obscures the vocals a bit too much.
agree? sounds like a FUN direction though, a la ms. kittin.
keep up the good work, you too braindance backwards (nothing
wrong with sounding a little like autechre).

I wondered if you got those? The heavy one obscures the
voice because it's a rough mix with only one part playing...
there's russian choirs, sub bass, and allsorts of silly
stuff to be added, it's virtually everything muted, I just
thought it sounded fun!

it does sound fun, makes sense that it's only a rough mix,
just wanted to give my opinion in case it was going to be a
basic/mimimal electro track which would be extremely tricky
to do well

btw i love that "slick wrists" track, whoever did it, the
chorus and the background effects are always stuck in my
head.. someone's a big fan of mid to late 90s underground
hip-hop

offline ecnadniarb on 2003-12-18 19:10 [#00997459]

The compression does make a big difference, I've never used
a compressor before :D

The reverb thing has turned into a problem for me though. I
really didn't pick it up when I was first doing it but the
triggers on the samples are actually causing the effect...I
am using MIDI to trigger the samples so I can't figure out
why it seems to be doing it.

I have only been doing music for 9 months. I think I am
looking to run before I can walk. I think I will go away
and make Trance for 3 years then come back to all this shit
:P

That sounds really good, I love the beat. And, as someone
already said, it sounds more like Richard Devine than
Autechre. You really should make a full track out of this.
Please. Please.

what exactly does a compressor do? i know it
compresses...but how does it make things sound?

offline JivverDicker from my house on 2003-12-18 19:15 [#00997468]

Just imagine the percusive aspect, edit the samples so they
have a hard attack.. Play with the compressor so the rhythm
pokes through...or, make german trance music for a few
years..

Depending on the settings, it squeezes the end result but
keeping the peaks of the music, it can push up the quiet
bits too but play around

It is sounds of similar quality and beat structure as their
latest lp, but definately not of the insane intricacy as
stuff on ep7 and lp5 and chichlisuite. It's definately a
whole lot better than that noise percussion you made IMO.

I don't know what's up with realplayer playing mpegs on my
computer. It has to buffer for about 2 minutes each time
even though I downloaded it.

I like this a lot. It reminds me of Cichli-era stuff too.
The FM synth's sound could do with a little bit more FM, but
that's about the only thing I could suggest to improve it.
Very autechre-ish :D
