Hello...

Once again the time is upon us where I post a short peice of
sound I have made as an experiment for future work.

This one is called

Thank you for your kind attention.

far to simplistic as it is imo, but you do state "experiment
for future work" so there you have it.

...& I couldn't listen to it for a third time *yawn*

Simplistic?

I wouldn't have described it as that personally...but thanks
for listening :P

All the stuff I post up here is generally just me
experimenting with different techniques to use in full
tracks later...I have still yet to make a full track which I
suppose is going to be the next step.

unless I'm mistaken it was a ditorted beat........... not
rocket science really is it.

There is more than just a distorted beat, but maybe I am
only hearing that because I know what the stuff sounds like
without the distortion. I didn't want any sweeping synth
lines or shit, but fair point if the other stuff isn't
apparent. Cheers.

it would be nice to be able to hear the fx, the distortion
is probably taking over the mix too much.

try putting the effects over the distortion instead of the
other way round

Well, I realize this is something that is quite minimal and
probably intended to be played simultaneously with some
other sound type thing, but on it's own I don't really like
it. It sounds like whatever software used is capable of
constucting at quite a microscopic level but when you step
back and look at the whole thing, it seems that a regular
drum beat created with big clumsy percusson wav files sounds
better than one with so much white noisish sound in it. Also
the actual beat was kind of rigid and repetitive. I like
that "waveforms" mp3 more than this.

Thanks for listening anyway :D!!

You have some nice sounds going on in there. I like. The end
part is really good.

offline Sanguine from San Francisco (United States) on 2003-12-17 17:26 [#00996051]

Ok... to do this right I'd have to have a bar to bar
description of what's going on... so I'll just put in my two
cents

There are some sweet parts here, where the drums are working
together really well. It's definitly more complex than it
sounds at first glance but the things you're doing blend
together because of the amount of white noise. To have
people hear the effects better you'd have to play with some
filters in more parts or something. The technical reason is
white noise is all frequencies at once so it dulls down
what's happening in other areas... make sense? Hope that
helps.

Some of the drum parts seem to drag a bit instead of push,
it keeps down the energy (since that's what I think you were
going for, something really heavy and energetic). The snare
lags by a fraction of a second or the bass notes, both tend
to do it when you put the effects on. It's all about
details, some places you've got it dead on, sounds damn
good... I'll give you some examples by seconds if you want.

I love the part at the end, want more of that, make a full
track and put it up!

I guess I like it, but it stops abruptly when I thought it
was going to really begin. WHICH IS A SHAME.

Cheers for all that everyone.

Sanguine I know what you are talking about, a lot of the
problems with the sound is down to compression though...in
the original WAV everything is a lot cleaner and
crisper...the compression has muggied everything up.

Another problem was with the drum hits...they were too weak
and low in volume and rather than sort them out before
sequenciing I left them and ramped up the gain and
distortion to compensate, could have handled it a bit better
really :D
