me. it's only a 30 minute plane flight away. wooo.

*p.s. the tumbleweed has crickets chirping in it*

that makes it quite a unique tumbleweed

indeed; both unique and rare, this tumbleweed travels only
the most un-happening of streets of the most un-happening
scenes of the most un-happening towns... or when the words
"canadian" "electronic" and "scene" are used serially to
form a phrase

MTL music composers are mainly click-house,
dubby-experimental and psy-trance.

A few french hip-hoppers are also in the scene.

Since I live and frequent show in Montreal, the greatest
city in the world, I will list some of what's going on
here:

Tiga - for those into electro
Afuken - his album "My Way" on Force Inc. is pretty fargin'
good.
Tim Hecker - pretty sure he's still around these parts -
Radio Amor, Haunt Me, Haunt Me Do It Again
Mitchell Akiyama - lesser known but signed to Komet's
Raster-Noton imprint
David Kristian - the man with the tiny machines rarely
disappoint
Kid Koala - Ninja Tune Turntablist
Misstress Barbara - World Renowned House DJ
Deadbeat - on Pole's label ~scape

That's about all I can think of right now...

PLUS
Mutek every year. Which never disappoints. Every summer we
get a week of shows of the best of the best. For example
Herbert, Kompakt label showcase, Stephan Mattieu

AND
We most often get the shows everywhere else does.

AND
It's cheap to live here, the bars are open until 3 a.m., and
the women are beautiful.

BUT
It can get damn cold.

plus for the experimental headz there's the festival just
outside Montreal, just before Mutek.... i can't remember
what it's called or where exactly it is... but last years
roster was nice....

and i know winnipeg did have the send and receive
festival... but i think that ended this year...

Non existent. You'd be hardpressed to find a motherfucker
who's seen Come to Daddy here.

Of all the electronic music I listen to, I can't think of
much that's a product of the Great White North...

that's a shame... cause we have some talented boys floatin'
about... not a tonne, but most of them do it pretty damn
well

Alien8 is also part of the Montreal scene. Good people for
sure. I remember seeing Godspeed in this loft where you
brought your own beer. Ah good times.

There's a great article in the latest
edition of E|I Magazine (Issue #2)
spreading over 4 pages worth of
the Canadian Electronic Music Scene.
A really good read, discussing all
the above + part 2 of this massive
article will be featured in Issue #3.
Watch out for that..

Check http://ei-mag.com for more.

experimental, idm, hardcore+breakcore, fuck.. ANYTHING
really!

and the occasional gig on the weekend mainly in some
warehouse or something.

there is so many venues and these kinda nights in Melbourne
anyone can get a gig!

come to rural Newfoundland... there's a huge scene a
brewing... when the old fishermen get back from a long day
on the sea, with a big catch of cod and crab in tow, they
always break out the synthesizers and drum machines and have
a good ole rave down on the docks!!

i actually went to an idm night here in edmonton recently...
it was in this rent-out type hall above these two-decrepit
looking shops on the edge of chinatown... there was like 35
people there... first there were two djs spinning glitch
with one apply fx to the others mixing... then this local
dude Clinker, who apparently was at Mutek last year (and is
supposed to have an album in the works for Andrew Duke's
label) did a laptop noise-ambient set. It was quite a good
set, actually, and when he does release an album, he might
be worth checking out... then this dude from Peterborough,
Mr. Ruben Kincaid came on and dead an interesting live beats
set on his laptop... really messed up stuff...

The only problem is the lack of communication. Goddamn in
Montréal, it's really tough. Even if there's all those
cool artists (Kid Koala, Amon Tobin, etc...)

I mean I have no clue about the upcomming Squarepusher show,
it's less then 2months away. Same goes for the
Zentertainment show at the SAT with Amon. ;-(

yeah, but you don't have to buy a plane ticket, just to get
to Mutek
