Moving to England?

Well, we (at the moment) have a free public healthcare
system and more welfare than the US.

If you come here to work, whether your life will improve or
not is irrelevant, as far as we're concerned. An immigrant
is still and immigrant and we only have so much room, don't
we?

i have never been to wales, but im sure you are all fine
people!

in fact even when it comes to sport fans - rugby fans know
their manners!

Nah, we're all wankers here. But you're right, no matter how
brainless rugby fans are they aren't as bad as footie fans.

Don't listen to these weirdos. London is very diverse, and
we don't hate yanks. I bet all these anti americans are
sitting there in levis and adidas anyway.

i haven't been to england so i'm not sure what the cities
are like, but glasgow and edinburgh are great! i wouldn't
mind living in either of the places.

Leeds is a cool place, the problem with big cities in
england is crime, but hey, it's probly no where near the
level of places like NY or somewhere like that, it's all
relative i guess. i've never been mugged or shot (touch
wood!)

sorry! another point!
compare the whole of the uk to one american state and it's
still a smaller place, so if your used to travelling long
distance the uk will feel tiny

so do i, my best friend lives there, besides then i could go
to all those warp, rephlex events! managed to catch one
braindance brockup when i was there, oh how i wish i could
experience that right now! listening to bilious paths and
drinkin red wine really makes me wish i was at some electro
do right now, my computer speakers are alright but nothing
beats the sound of a club.

spacecadet....try going to johannesburg for a day and see
what crime is like in a bit city

i've been toying with this idea m'self, actually. of course,
i really don't have any skills, or anything, and no
education beyond high school, so it'd be a bit difficult,
i'm thinking. especially since in order to get a
visa-thinger you have to have secured your job before you
even enter the country. and i say boo to that. it'll be many
years before i can make my way in there, probably. oh well.
but best of luck, guy. =]

you'll free shitty health care and pay huge taxes... I
wouldn't go for the money just a change of pace and culture
... so go for london... fuck i'll be there for a a few
weeks this spring.. get ready fuckers

Well, the English stereotype is that they sound like fags
and are cold arrogant twats. You say, 'I don't sound like an
arrogant gay twat' 'I'm warm'. Well, I never eat at
mcDonalds, either. I'm not fat. I'm intelligent. I'm
somewhat refined. Americans, don't go to Europe! They'll
hate you before you open your mouth. American Prejudice is
at it's peak there. And I guess you are lumping in the
Canadians in with that cultural line up? Well, I think the
Canadians hate us even more. They vomit bile in our laps.

Leeds is the fastest growing city in the UK and rapidly
becoming an important financial centre.

Ireland should be avoided as it's EU funded boom has passed
and times are getting harder there.

I can agree with that. When i went to Warrington to see
Radiohead I discovered that my hotel was opposite a chemical
factory and they turned the heating off at 1am. It's
symbolic of the whole depressing town.

British Isles = Great Britain + Ireland (literally the 2
islands)

Great Britain = England + Scotland + Wales (the island to
the east)

Ireland = the Republic of Ireland + Northern Ireland (the
island to the west)

United Kingdom = England + Scotland + Wales + Northern
Ireland

Good luck to you, but I fear you may struggle with the Visa
thing.. As I understand it, sorting out visas for people is
a lot of work and trouble - and most companies will avoid
doing it if possible. Unless there is a really strong reason
to hire you, rather than a british person with similar
experience, they will probably pass you over because no one
wants to do the necessary paperwork..

This happened to an American relative of mine about 10 years
ago who wanted to work in London. He had a lot of banking
experience and went to tonnes of interviews with London
based banks, and most of them said they would like to hire
him, but couldnt be bothered with paperwork as they could
find a european with similar skills who would be easier to
employ.

Dont mean to be negative, I just wouldnt get too excited
about the idea of living in another country until you are
sure that the visa thing is ok... Do some real research.

Good luck, although I wouldnt come to london if i were you -
it may the best place in UK for culture, music etc, but it
is absurdly expensive, weather is crap and people are
miserable bastards. And the rest of the country is even
worse.

OK but be careful - the further north you go from London the
more they seem to enjoy fighting and random acts of
senseless voilence.. And it gets colder. And more rainy.

I've never been to Europe, but if you enjoy that English
weather I suggest moving to NY or Seattle. All the benifits
of living in America, without all the stupid ignorant
Americans, so its almost like living in another country.
Plus, NYC is VERY DIVERSE and OPENMINDED.

I have a friend living in Toronto actually, I've considered
it... but I want to move to the UK for the music scene
mostly, the job situation is better there and It'll be a lot
more DIFFERENT than here

I went to Ireland on tour with the orchestra, I know how
much different Dublin and Cork are from here and I know
London will be even more interesting. I need a change in
lifestyle, in the way I think, Canada won't do that

Lots of helpful info here guys, thanks a lot for the
suggestions... I'm looking into a lot, I'll be able to
afford the Visa if I can get it, and I think given my
situation I can make that happen... looking pretty good
right now

Why would an American want to go live in Europe? Surrounded
by cynics. Everyone hating you. Bad weather. Stay. They
aren't as sophisticated as they'd like you to think. Make
your own music scene. Do you plan on doing the Cornwall
tour? Aphex hates stalkers.
