recommend richie hawtin in general. the plastikman records are great. theres an australian compilation on minus records - tunes by rh under different names (fuse etc) - some of his tracks are more minimal than others.. theres a nice little collaboration with lfo on it too.

de9 was great. even if you dont like minimal techno, you cant help but appreciate the effort that went into making that recording.
as for a new mix cd, im sure he'll put his one of a kind, modified allen & heath CTRL mixer to good use.

He's from windsor ontario, across the lake....
If you like de-9 check some 'thomas brinkmann' he's brilliant for minimal funk that really rocks at times. Listen to the 12's he did a few years back all titled with girls names.

well, i don't agree with elevating mortal men to the level of deities - but i do understand where youre coming from. hawtin is one of those artists i havent grown tired of or been really disappointed by yet.
anyone own alcachofa by ricardo villalobos. hawtin rates it as "the best electronic record of the last year or so". he's used a fair few of villalobos' tracks in his dj sets.. de9 included.

i was totally impressed when i got it...but the other day i listened to it and i wasn't all that excited anymore, there are still some great tunes there tho - but my taste is nothing to rely on. so perhaps you check some tunes out. i think the whole thing is more club oriented, tho it can be listened to at home as well. if you wan't to check some tunes i can rip it to mp3's and share...

good idea. if you have the time, id appreciate it.
i think i know what you mean about the fabric record. a lot of mix albums tend to do that. i don't by them often for that very reason. which is why i remain so enthused about cds like de9. because a mix that well designed + consistently good doesn't come along all that often.

off on a richie hawtin tangent.. but i didn't fancy starting a new thread just for this. there are too many shortlived threads around this past week or so.
in an interview for wired news online, richie hawtin said this of his dj set for apple in new york:
"Considering there is no DJ implementation in the iPod software, it went surprisingly well. And my reasons for being part of the whole thing, the whole promotion, was trying to raise my hand in a pack of DJs and say, "Hey Apple, this is a really cool product, but ... what would be great would be to have some simple pitch-shifting capabilities." Just to be able to change the speed of the tracks, and I can see it being an amazing DJ performance device.
Traditionally DJs carried records, but there is a certain amount of records, thanks to their size and weight, that you can carry, maybe 100 records, 150 records.... Something like the iPod is tiny in size. You can put it in your pocket, but you can have a huge selection of tracks. Imagine having two iPods and just jacking into a sound system at a club and being able to play for 18 hours."
i think this sounds like a nice idea [assuming you can afford 2 ipods of course].. don't know why apple didnt think of integrating this when they first design the ipod.
