Ketaman on 2001-11-30 16:40 [#00057094]

Is some similar albums
in the univesre like
Selected Ambient Works 85-92 ?

aperson on 2001-11-30 16:50 [#00057096]

I'd say anything by Boards of Canada would fall into the
same category.

Try checking out
Music has the Right to Children
A Beautiful Place out in the Country

Some great songs by them are
In A Beautiful Place out in the Country
Turquoise Hexagon Sun
Pete Standing alone

Also some autechre stuff is kind of like it
Rae would be a good example.

music for airports-brian eno.

damn, I gotta pick up A Beautiful Place in the Country
sometime... in music world here in Newfoundland, they have a
category under alternative for Boards of Canada, but they
never have an cds there... I wonder if they keep then under
the counter... well, I'll have to check...

The_Funkmaster from Newfoundland, Canada on 2001-11-30 17:26 [#00057100]

gotta get some Brian Eno as well... damn, there's so much
music to buy!!! :)

Ketaman on 2001-11-30 17:48 [#00057109]

Of course, I know artists like Eno, BOC, Biosphere, Klaus
Schulze, Tetsu Inoue, ...
But I hoped that there is music more comparable to SAW.

(sorry for my english)

Ophecks from Nova Scotia on 2001-11-30 18:24 [#00057112]

I never thought of SAW and BOC as the same kind of thing,
aperson (I love that name, haha). But I guess you're onto
something, they DO have something in common...

heavy D
did a colaboration with danny elfman that is in the same
vain as disc 2 of SAW2
its called "somebody's humpin"
the ladies love it

The_Funkmaster from Newfoundland, Canada on 2001-11-30 19:37 [#00057134]

yeah, from what I've heard from SAWII, its a nice bit
different then Boards of Canada... but again, I haven't
listened to the whole SAWII album...

aperson on 2001-11-30 21:10 [#00057170]

But then again he was talking about SAW 85-92 ;)

Selected Ambient Works 85-92 ?

I see Alec Empire's Low on Ice as close, just a little
deeper and not as melody driven. I put those two albums in
the same section of my collection.

heh, you are right... :)

Ophecks from Nova Scotia on 2001-11-30 22:38 [#00057206]

Funkmaster, you so stupid. Pay attention. So you're getting
SAW 2, that's an awesome album. You'll love it, BUT DON'T
CONFUSE IT WITH SAW 85-92, DUMB ASS!!!! :p

Pen Expers from Uruguay on 2001-12-01 01:16 [#00057232]

first Autechre album (Incunabula), most definitely!

spasticmatt from mp3.com/spasticmatt on 2001-12-01 01:20 [#00057234]

i would suggest arovane...its not exactly like saw..but
chilled out extensively nontheless. biosphere is just
perfect...i love it..

wayout from a plastic bubble on 2001-12-01 04:00 [#00057264]

well i just downloaded a track by marumari thats very
saw85-92-ish...
its called 'way in the middle of the air'
theres a little vocal bit throughout that reminds me of
xtal
also try the track 'rocket summer'
both are on the album 'supermogadon'
hmm
proem's burn plate no.1 is similar to saw85-92 in the melody
department...but the beats are a little different (more
ae-ish if you kow what i mean)
very good album regardless

gimmik's 'slow motion process' is also quite similar at
times...

umm...try these albums too...(though its pretty hard to
match saw85-92..)
cex-role model
black dog productions- bytes
b12-electro soma
ovuca-wasted sunday
plaid-rest proof clockwork

Things that are slow basically? I'd suggest forrest fang
"gongland", future sound of london "lifeforms", robert rich
(whichever cd it was that had "mossdance" on it-it has 4
songs but they range up to about 20 minutes). The former and
latter use "fractal programs" but they don't sound very
fractal to me, it just ends up sounding random usually. I
rarely listen to these though.

...MwmW)m(WmwM... on 2001-12-01 04:40 [#00057268]

actually I was thinking SAWII, I never heard the one you
mentioned...

Korben Dallas from = Salvador on 2001-12-01 11:50 [#00057311]

Black Dog - Bytes ???

Not really, a bit too "PLAIDy" but its the same sort of era
.. and if anything is going to be a rip off..

wayout from a plastic bubble on 2001-12-01 23:07 [#00057403]

yeah, i was just trying to think of some good 'ai' era
stuff.. its suprising how hard it is to find albums
comparable to saw85-92...i mean it doesnt really sound that
different...but theres something about it..

but yeah, marumari and proem come the closest of the ones i
mentioned...
also try aspen...really nice...im listening to him for the
first time as i type this and it sounds closer to SAW than
anything ive heard...i know he has more than one album out
there but the only one i can remember the name of at the
moment is 'are you that retail snob?'
and i think theres another called 'sugar'
definately check him out.
