I can't fucking believe it, I'm almost crying. The Beatles are the greatest thing ever on earth, they deserve to be immortal, and they will be. I'm sure he's up there with John right now writing amazing songs that will last forever. One of the most beautiful human beings that ever graced this earth. I can't believe this.

Paul isn't the Beatles. Solo albums are NOT the Beatles. And they will be loved a million years from now, when all other musicians are nothing.
Since when does a ''dead'' band dominate with an album 30 years after they broke up, and since when has a ''dead'' man like John Lennon been considered the most important musician ever to this day? He is, even more than Beethoven, Mozart, Elvis, Miles Davis. And, yes, A BILLION TIMES as important as RDJ. Dead my ass! His legacy grows, and every time some little punk band picks up their little guitars, it's because the Beatles broke all the barriers, whether or not the stupid punks know or respect that, they will eventually, and everytime RDJ makes a loop, or makes a backwards sound effect, it's a direct descendant of THE BEATLES' experiments, that noone else would or could do.
And 4 ''dead guys'' like the Beatles, plus today's technology, they'd turn the world on its head like they did in 63. Not just a group of fans, like IDMers or just the pop crowd or the underground crowd, but EVERYONE, the whole world, would pay attention. And I belive that when all 4 Beatles are ''dead'', they'll be back to show us what music is all about, look out. I hope I'm still alive to see that!!!!

I heard that this morning too. Sorry to tell you guys my life story here but this has been the worst week EVER for me. My gran died of cancer yesterday, my mom has cancer again, my girlfriend has doubts about us, and now George Harrison passes away... I think I should get SO wasted out my mind tonight to get my thoughts off of the situation. Still, at least I still got you people to talk to. :(

Ophecks has hid head up his arse. Nothing Against George or the Beatles, but for chrisakes! The Beatles were not the best thing since sliced bread and they weren't any kind of immortal gods with mystical powers. Cool if you like their music, me too, but jesus...they didn't invent the wheel, and to say that no musician since them could have amounted to shit without them is just ignorance.

I dunno... The Beatles changed rock and roll... for me, I see a totally distinct difference between before the Beatles, and after, with The Beatles directly in the middle... they totally changed rock and roll, and they were a brilliant band... think about it, they were the most innovative, innfluential, and commercially successful bands ever... innovation and commercial success hardly goes together anymore, and yet the Beatles were #1 in each category at the same time... didn't they have the whole top 5 songs on the charts one time? That's freaking amazing!!!

The thing that makes me love them is that they were unbelieveably popular without compromising artistry, and had little or no pretensions. They really didn't give a shit what people thought. I'm sure even RDJ has pretensions, I think he could make a great pop song, but won't because he's afraid what his fans will think. ''THAT'S NOT COOL, MAN!''
I wish he'd try and take over the charts.
|

I don't think that RDJ won't make a song that he's sure will be a #1 pop song because he's afraid of what his fans will think, I think he won't do it because why should he? That'd be like going to the dark side. He's got plenty enough money anyway.
Besides, he's probably already #1 hits producing for n'sync and what not.

Why should he? Why not? It's not the dark side, he could make serious in-roads for electronic music. Fuck ''underground'' shit, let it be heard by the masses.
I know that's not his style... but still... if wasn't such an arsehole he could do it!

Personally, and I can't speak for everyone, but I'm sure other people have to feel this way, I would hate to make great music and become mainstream the way we all think of pop music. For millions of idiots to dig my music would not make me happy. Look at all the shite that is popular. I would just be pissed off when I knew there were a ton of morons who I hated who absolutely loved my music, who always said that I was awesome or some such nonsense. I guess I can't explain this as well as I had hoped but...I think that's probably something to do with it. If Richard knew he could do it, he would have probably ten times as many fans, so what would it matter if the original fans didn't like it? I'm sure we would all know it was a joke anyhow and love Richard all the more for it. I don't know.
Fuck pop and pop culture. It sucks.
Only reason pop is popular is because of marketing and empty-headed pre-teens.

well one thing about mainstream music I'll say... U2, I love the band... their new album I liked when I first bought it, I thought the songs were pretty good... (not as good as their previous stuff mind you)... but it seems like just about every song has been worn out on the radio, all the songs I liked at first anyways, and now I can't listen to the album at all... It's nice that Aphex Twin, and BOC and stuff aren't played on the radio, because we can enjoy the music when we want to...
