so apparantly now i can play the mp3 in my computer, but i cant get sound when plugged into the drive, but it still will play out of the speakers (that dont have a headphone outlet)
so.........when getting an mp3 player, do the tracks just need to been directly on the disk or can they be sub-divided into folders, how would the diskman know where to look in the folders ?

depends if you have a discman that can play mp3 discs or not, or if it only reads discs with mp3s burnt on them audio style, not mp3 style, like to say that it only holds so much time, or does it hold only so much space?
first you really just need to know if your discman plays mp3 cds or just audio ones.

The headphone out on the drive only works when you're playing a CD.
