This really couldnt be a more hateful topic, im glad your
proud of being at the center of it all reflex.

I think your view on americans, not politicians, but the
actual people is completely distorted because i think you
just believe that its 'cool' to dislike americans.

well i say fuck you

7 tracks for me is the limit, with rare exceptions - ie Come
To Daddy, which can't really be classed as an album. It
depends on content, length and the feel.

Wasn't this in another thread? Oh well, I'm adapting.

i thought EP's generally had to do with time like around
30min?

viringpusher: I thought EPs were just a certain track
length? or is it both tracks and time? I wonder who knows
for sure!

Aye, good point. The more recognized format is a compilation
of the two, isn't it. I'd go with 7 tracks max for an EP,
then.

offline earthleakage from tell the world you're winning on 2003-12-10 17:03 [#00985737]

the original idea of an EP was a 7" single played at 33rpm
(i.e. extended play) usually around 12 minutes and 3 or 4
tracks

Being fairly young I don't remember the origins of the EP. I
do however see the mutated varients it progressed to in the
nineties :D

what about stuff like gy!be...their first album technically
only has 3 songs, but it's definitely not an ep. i think it
has more to do with length than number of tracks.

offline GIR from Easton on 2003-12-10 17:09 [#00985748]
Points: 828 Status: Addict

i think the ep/lp is all up for grabs, i mean look at the
misfit lps, about 20min long. Its a personal matter of taste
I would say. For me its 20min or more for an ep, and 40 min
or more for an lp.

True enough, the new Fantomas has ONE track and it's 74
minutes long. But how long is EP7?

I think most people, with some small input from the artist,
can usually tell what's an album and what's not. It's mostly
to do with what the artistic statement was intended from the
outset and where the final product ended up. I can't think
of any instances where the two are really confused. Not with
the stuff I listen to anyhoo.

offline naaic from Uppsala (Sweden) on 2003-12-10 17:21 [#00985755]

well, you can always think of it this way: if it's cheap =
ep, if it's more expensive = lp. :D

"One of the four major record formats, the EP was a
compromise between the 45 rpm single and the LP, or “long
play” album. The EP or extended play issue was a 7” disc
that had a large center hole like the 45, but also had a
cardboard cover, cover art work, and multiple tracks
(generally four) that were often from a related LP. EPs were
an attempt to create a product priced between the low (under
a dollar) price of a 45 and the relatively high (over two
dollars) price of an LP. They were marketed heavily, but not
too successfully, between about 1950 until the mid-1960's.
Today, EPs are not as widely collected as LPs, 45s, or 78s,
but nevertheless there are many collectors who buy EPs
exclusively."

hehe

I think in most cases, you know what the release is before
you hear it. Thus, this affects how you listen to it, like
it or not. If you don't, and then discover afterwards, for
me at least it usually makes the release make more sense.
You can place it better on it's own and (in hindsight) where
it's fits in an artists's discography.

offline qrter from the future, and it works (Netherlands, The) on 2003-12-10 17:24 [#00985758]

I think it should be solely sought in the length of a
record, seeing as EP means extended play..

so you could have 2 tracks, but it depends on their combined
length whether it's an E.P. or not.

I only ever wanted to talk about doom. I think more people
like to know that if you dont like something you shouldnt
bring it up too much because its only gonna cause trouble.

I mean a healthy argument is ok, but when people try to tell
others what to do then it just becomes lame.

Im not going to change my avatar, until I want to.

by the way, I'm not a moderator... I think any chance I

also, I've always felt Come to Daddy made a nice companion

also, Doom is a fun game! :)

controls you can make it bigger but the actual size stays
the same in the end, on the PC version (same damn thing!)
you could pause it and drag it bigger to fit the whole
screen, how can I do this on my mac?
