After i reformatted my harddrive, i got cooledit pro back and working as i did with sound forge.
The problem is that i can hit record and try to record what is playing but nothing happens. It isn't picking up the sound and i can't quite seem to figure out why.
Any suggestions or tips?

make sure all the inputs in sound control are on. you might now be able to see em all, so click options>properties and make sure all the line in/mic in ones are selected and make sure theyre on.

In your mixer go options -> properties -> recording -> ok and see if you have the line in and / or wave balance turned down or muted.
You might also have to select a recording source in your applications' setups.

O.k then, tip 1. Try your drivers for your soundcard, try and get some new ones if possible or try reinstalling.
tip2. I had this exact same problem because I have 2 soundcards in my system. The problem is that if you have more than one is that your pc doesn't know which card to use to record sound from. What you need to do is go into control panel and access the sound options. Look for any problems, uncheck the box which says *Use Default* (or sumthing along those lines). Aside from this there isn't much more.
tip 3. Access your volume settings and make sure that nothing is on mute, i.e Stereo Mix, or Aux.
tip 4. Especially go into the Sound options and check to see where your pc is recording sound from, there will be a selected device and make sure the name of your soundcard is there!
Hope this helps ;)

Yep, in one of the menu items at the top of CoolEdit (I forget which one, it's toward the right), you click Windows Recording Mixer or whatever it's called and select your recording source. Then you should be able to turn on the record monitor (it's in the same menu) to see if it's picking anything up.

Thanks everyone! I got it fixed. It was selected on microphone instead of wave out mix!
Thanks again! :D
