Holy Shit this guy is good!

New album by Gimmik - "Back to basics", on Toytronic.
I just picked it up today, and its one of the best albums
ive heard all year.
Superbly melodical, great crunchy beats(think quinoline
yellow), very together album from start to finish.
You guys definetly need to check out this album, if you dont
know already.
Toytronic.com has kick ass samples of all of their
releases.

Also picked up the new Dual Purpose 12", much better than
the first.
this is a gescom/AE project if ya'll dont know. very tastey,
AND limited to 1000.

Shadow Hunter's 7" is kinda not what i was expecting, i had
to pick it up though since the one guy is from chicago.

Anway, go check out Toytronic!!!

actually, AE vehemently denies they have anything to do with
Dual Purpose ... in an interview i've read some time ago,
they actually named the person who is behind this project
... but then again, can we really trust people like AFX and
AE on such matters? for all we know, 'Spice World' was their
handiwork ... but it's not like they'll ever admit to it
...

P.S.
does the Gimmik album have any vocal contributions on it? i
know a girl who worked with him on a few tracks, but i'm not
sure if any of it ever got released ...

Ya, the whole dual pupose thing is iffy. its def sounds like
them, and on the first 12" there was the gescom logo on the
label, so go figure. its still really good.

no vocals on gimmik, but your friend is lucky to know him.
very talented.

i'm not really friends with this girl. she dated an
acquaintance of mine whom i've shared a flat with at one
point ... she's worked with Funkstorung also, but she's
horribly picky with her beats, so again, i'm not sure if
anything ever came out of it ... a lovely voice too, albeit
perhaps a little too bjork-y in spots ...

You know, the very last track my fiance actually commented
on the fact that it seemed there SHOULD have been some sort
of vocals over the track. it's a bit more electro-ey, than
anything on the rest of the album.
bjork kills me. very unsettling voice. i want to karate chop
her in the thrat every time i hear her voice.

Yeah, Toytronic rock!

I've recently received the new Gimmik, plus Digitonal,
Multiplex and Abfahrt Hinwil releases. All are fantastic and
well worth buying.

Incidentally, they're all on the Affluxion playlist too ;)

this gimmik release is decent, i much preferred his other
stuff though.

honestly though, ever since toy 10 came out, i think
toytronic has been steadily headed down the shitter. save
for the multiplex release pinghaus frequencies, that was
awesome (besides the remixes).

but as for the shadow huntaz 7", i thought the music was
messy and the rapping was god awful.

and i liked the first dual purpose better.

yeah, the gimmik rocks.

the girl you're talking about is Titi right? She's just
released her first 12", with Mr Projectile on production
duties.

It's called And They Met... and it's brilliant. there's a
new version of Illusions (which is the track she did with
Gimmik) and it's brilliant. You'll find it on 1010
recordings.

Oh, and whilst i'm here, i'm not about to justify
toytronic's decisions Mimi as I know what you think of my
record, but just appreciate that a label exists at all that
is willing to experiement, even with it's own successful
formula, in order to raise the bar of music as a whole.
just my opinion of course.

i'll be releasing a new ep or darker, beatier material with
toytronic early in 2004.

All 3 Albums are great....bautiful melodic
melodies....Clicks & peeps...etc...
Thats what i call IDM Music !

And their Online Store is cheap...paid 1/4 less than on

Another Question:

Anybody has the other toytonic releases ? I'm playing with
the thoughts to buy the other CD releases !

Can you tell me more about:

Digitonal : 23 Things Fall Apart CD
Abfahr Hinwill - Links Berge rechts Seen

well i'm digitonal so i'll leave it for others to give you
an objective opinion on that.

the abfahrt hinwil album is ace though. probably my
favourite release on the label all in all. it collects the
previous limited vinyl releases. quite similar to later
gimmik, very melodic with angular electro beats. very warm,
bubbly and lushious.

Trilogy and Planquadrat are both amazing, as is The Light.
if you like Gimmik's output, then this'll be right up your
street.

My album is very different from most of toytronic's other
output. the production is simpler so if you're into complex
programming etc then you may be disappointed. I use lots of
strings - it's very cinematic and melodic.

rub the wrong way.

I was just about to say that your(digitonal) i much
different than other toytronic! your album is great because
it still has that "togetherness" that i look for in a truly
great album, yet its still out there. really moody and
darkish. i wish i'd have found out about you guys sooner.
In my opinion ther have been too many new artists coming out
that sound too like each other. what does THAT sound like
you ask? all this laptop crunchy new school AE crap. its
boring AND annoying. to me anyway. the toytronic fellow,
take that machine "crunch" and lay silky smooth melody, and
RYTHM! whoa! thats a new idea! i'm tired of artists being
spastic just to be spastic. its not music anymore. my
opinion of course.

anyways, digitonal, you rock! and so does everyone else on
toytronic.
almost puts a tear in my eye. everyone there is on the same
waelength. like rephlex USED to be...

another great new realease this year which i think sort of
broke the AE crunchiness, was by signaldrift. the compass
lp. its got the new album "compass" and an old ep called
breman. real laid back, organic sounding IDM stuff.

cheers chaps...new stuff on it's way very soon. look out
for our first collaboration with Kirsty Hawkshaw. if you're
into beautiful music, you're going to love this.

Are there release dates planned already ? And whats Kirsty
Hawkshaw dont't know him/her ? What music is it like ?

no dates yet, but expect them early in 2004. One on
Toytronic, one on Seed. Kirsty Hawkshaw is a singer, best
know for being part of Opus III and singing 'Fine Day'. She
also did Orbital's Halcyon and has sung with Slovo, BT and
many more. she has a unique, beautiful, ambient voice and
we're very excited about working with her.

OMIGOD! i love her voice!!! collabo on seed? hmm that should
be....weird. toytronic sounds up her alley.

well, we're working with both Seed and Toytronic at the
moment, so we'll see. I prefer to actually get the music
produced before I worry about which label it drops on.

oh, there's also an exclusive new track coming out on a
Smallfish Records compilation in January.

cheers for listening...

is back to basics the one with the 025 on the cd cover? and
the "overflow" sample tune?

Yeah I have that one. It's tight, alright. Reminds me of
Esem a little. Nice drums too.

oh yeha and dtnl is respected for a reason, dudes.

His shit isn't always to my taste (eww badly put sentence)
as I'm a beats kid rather than a melody kid and soulful or
sad or dark music can't always take w/ me ad I've messed up
my head enough so that dark music actually depresses me but
23things is well put together and I'm going to listen to it
when I get home.
And probably cry.

sure mate - i don't tend to check this site that often, just
kind of lurk now and again, but if you go to
www.digitonal.com you can add yourself to the mailing list.
actually, don't worry, i've added you myself!

cheers for listening.

"booga" on the new gimmik album really sticks out from the
other stuff. it's weird drilly stuff... it starts out like
bola-ish then ends with some boc-ish tracks, with booga
sticking out right there in the middle. slow motion process
had a better theme and is still a classic.
