Chrispy, where do you study Lau Gar Kung Fu? I met a guy in Cardiff who had done it. He said it was a bit like Wing Chun, with less of an emphasis on striking down from above, is that right? I've studied Dragon Style Kung-Fu. |

I've covered a *very* small amount of northern shaolin. Pretty good, lots of long stances, but you do look fucking silly and I imagine people would laugh at you if you used it in a fight. Still Kung-Fu isn't about image, so give it a go. Shaolin is a popular self defense style. |

Ceri JC: Lau Gar is a Southern Style Kung Fu. I wouldn't say it's as similar to wing chun as it is to Wu shu. It's very close quarters, balanced, square on, mainly hand movements. It emphisises mostly on animal movements (Lepord strike, tiger claw, horse stance, dragon fist). It's a very dirty martial art, checky and fast, less emphasis on power and more on balance and technique. I've been doing it for 4 and a bit years now. Hope that helps? |

Oh... I study in Tetbury, my town. Other clubs in my region are Gloucester, Bristol Cirencester. It's not very commercial. Not many people have heard of it but coz of Masters of Combat on channel 4 (Lau Gar won it! he he) It's alot more popular. |
