Rolling Stone top 500..

ok, Rolling Stone...try not to gag. I mean, who actually
reads Rolling Stone..?

And 'Best Albums EVER...' lists are just arbitrary bullshit
that will be recycled toilet paper in a few weeks but..

It really bugged me that in their top 500 albums of all time
they didn't have even one token Aphex, BoC or AE release. I
mean, think of all the artists that cite them as
influence...

I just don't get it. It seems so obvious to me that it is
some of the most enjoyable music ever, so I can never
understand why so few people like it.

Come to think of it, I don't think they had a SINGLE
electronic album in the entire thing, not even Kraftwerk...

Maybe the closest was New Order-Substance

they wouldn't have any of that, IDM still has just a small
niche following and RS is the most mainstream music mag out
there.

pretty pathetic list but i expected as much from them

Well I have to agree with everything that you've said here,
but Nine Inch Nails was selected at #200 for The Downward
Spiral. I think we can count that as electronic. Though I do
think they left out a lot of really great artists not that
the ones that named weren't great but I seem to recall all
of eminems albums coming in before 300 and I think that's a
travisty. But then again I do like Autechre, and Aphex Twin.
So what do I know???

idm comes off as pompous and wanky to a lot of people,
though the fact that they refuse to care/listen to it makes
them seem that way too. i have friends who dont care for it,
much like i dont care for their music.

dont know, not really surprised. never gets that much
attention in terms of "top number" lists. these lists are
pretty strange to me whenever someone does them.

pitchfork included some aphex squarepusher and boc. but
since everyone seems to launch holy war against pitchfork,
maybe i shouldnt mention them.

I did expect atleast ambient works 2. And moby is in the
fucking list. For fucksakes. Granted, lots of the music on
the list in the rock catagory is wonderful. I love dylan,
pet sounds, beatles. Those show no credit to RS. They are
safe bets, for sure. How many of these lists have there
been?

It takes effort for people to acclimate to non vocal music.
That's probably the issue with 'idm'.

I remember Rolling Stone gave Drukqs 1 star. In the same
issue, it gave Afroman's album 3 stars.

That was the last time I bothered to read Rolling Stone.

it gets on my nerves too how every damn list like that
always has every single Beatles album every released jammed
into the top 10... if that was 20 albums they'd still fit
them all in the top 10...

come on, pick the best, 2 best, or even three best beatles
albums, but leave it at that...

yeah, i mean... i love the beatles as much as the next guy,
but...

get off their gun already!!!

that was HOW long ago? we've made just as many advancements
in music since then.

yeah, they broke new ground.
but so has ae, and personally... i'd rather listen to
draft7.30 than a beatles album i've heard a zillion times
just about any day.

that's just me

I'll tell you why, it's because it would mean less people
would buy the mag to see theirr fav band/arrtist listed.

if you want some real comedy, look at the grammy nominations. yes,
some of them are good choices but most of them are bad. i
hate to be so simplistic but it's that basic: it's almost
all lip service to the major labels and their biggest
sellers. i'm really glad outkast, the roots, the neptunes,
and radiohead got nomimations but there's so much missing. i
think talib kweli's "get by" deserved a lot of nominations
and neither he nor the song got any. common's album was also
ignored, as were blackalicious. these guys should've at
least gotten "rap album of the year" nominations. i could go
on but let's not even get started on the dance category and
some of the rock categories (i don't think indie rock is all
that great lately but come on, there's better stuff out
there than white stripes which is in like every category..).

i think it's kind of pretentious to say "why is there no IDM
on this list?"

"WHAT OH MY GOD, WHY IS THERE NO TUVALIAN THROAT SINGING
ALBUMS ON THIS LIST?"

The Best Metal Performance category in the Grammy
nominations is the worst list ever. I don't expect them to
nominate any awesome underground stuff, but look at this:

Did My Time
Korn

mOBSCENE
Marilyn Manson

St. Anger
Metallica

Smothered
Spineshank

Inhale
Stone Sour

"St Anger" is an awful song, and a worse album. I can't
believe that ANYONE takes it seriously.
