this is my new track
in my opinion it is the most beautiful thing i've done to
this date, its just improvised piano and cello with a
natural backdrop... no trickery here, just calm. check it
out please! :)
xanpha - solace.

Awesome track!

Definately some of your best work. I didn't know you could
play the Cello as well. A really good piece and very
relaxing.

My only criticism would be to ditch the first time the
seagulls appear- it works a lot better the second time...

how did you produce it?

thankyou very much guys!
i had this track on repeat on my bedroom stereo while a
massive storm hit (i cant risk my computer in the storms)
and yeah i love this track

i cant play the cello ceri, my prac doesnt extend beyond
piano and brass, but i do however have a 6 octave midi
keyboard :)

the cello is a sound font

this track was produced without a sequencer of any sort, i
just assigned my instruments and just pressed record :) im
very very happy with it

Ah the soundfont is good quality (I'm pretty good at
spotting synthetic strings as I used to play the violin :)
and I take it you didn't quantise it?

Ah just read the rest of your post... obviously you didn't
quantise it :)

yeah fluked it all in one take :) (cello was overdubbed in
second take of course)

i really dont like quantising my stuff unless im slamming
down improv beats... i've ruined a few too many keyboard
parts by quantising them... i think the whole point of
playing it live is so that its more human, taking away the
whole computer perfection... i like that

Yes- can also help hide the fact that an element is synthed
too- if it sounds slightly loose, it's easier to imagine
someone really playing it :)

delicious! this is really good, guy (but then, i'm hard
pressed to find something of yours i don't like.
heh). but i agree with ceri about the seagulls. the second
time it seems more..."natural". or something. hehe. very
very relaxed and pretty. impressive. thanks for sharing. =]

I would have liked a lot more in a more sober, less romantic
production.

with that I mean - cutting all the moody background sounds,
kind of cheap, to me.

remove all the reverb - make it cleaner, more forthright,
honest, I guess.

now, combined with the track title, the romance drips off
it.

really cool track. only gripe i have with it is the
seagulls, they just distract from the melody too much and
just reek of cheese.

it's a good track, but i don't think you need the seagulls
and ocean in there, personally. otherwise a very nice song.
