dingle berry from on a small plastic chair breathing fire on 2001-11-28 08:38 [#00056351]

Intelligent dance music? ok just like intelligent jungle
back in 1992-3 IDM is an abreviation used by geeky
middle-class Nerds and corporate officials to put a label on
something they never realy understood to either gain
"popularity" (whilst saying "popularity" waggle index
fingers and the bird fingers at the same time to emphasize
inversion of commas!) or to make moneeeeeey(large collective
of rolling eeeess!) and catagorize again something they dont
realy understand!

dingle berry from on a small plastic chair breathing fire on 2001-11-28 08:41 [#00056353]

IDM = I Dildo Munters!
any other abreviations would be much appreciated!

aRCHRIVAL from wont tell ya, im scared. on 2001-11-28 08:42 [#00056354]

IDM my ass, what a fucking lame name.

mmmmMmmmm from chaopoooooo on 2001-11-28 08:42 [#00056355]

quotation marks equal inverted commas in your silly mixed up
world. That's cute.

dingle berry from on a small plastic chair breathing fire on 2001-11-28 08:44 [#00056357]

sorry mmmmmmmmmm i even had to ask my girlfriend what those
speech comma thingies were called sorry its way early!!!

mmmmMmmmm from chaopoooooo on 2001-11-28 08:45 [#00056358]

I like the name cerebral as the focus seems to be the mind
not like the dancefloor or something. You're going to sound
arrogant if you label what you do intelligent even if it
is... (but the creators aren't often the ones that label it
this way) As long as people have agreed meaning they can use
any word they choose, language is just a tool.

dingle berry from on a small plastic chair breathing fire on 2001-11-28 08:50 [#00056361]

exactly and music is just music those little vibrations that
disturb our stereo spectrum lovely! can i also stick a
"bling bling" in there somewhere coz it is the begining of a
new day and ive got to start somewhere! also cheers
mmmmmmmmmm for reminding me that some normal people do
inhabit this site sometimes!

Chrispy from UK on 2001-11-28 09:04 [#00056364]

I call it Artificial Intellegence Music, AIM.

Coz It sounds like it does what it wants and doesnt follow
musical rules, naughty thing. :)

Baron Von Picklefoot from From my "special" place on 2001-11-28 09:05 [#00056365]

I got songs to write and swans to feed. Be good and eat your
breakfast. Omlettes are the way to the path...THE BARON HAS
SPOKEN!!!

mmmMMmWWmmmW on 2001-11-28 09:23 [#00056372]

The omlettes leading to the path are a path in themselves.
Or a path leads to an omlette. I just ate a burrito at 1:22
in the morning so I'm not hungry anyway.

od from perth on 2001-11-28 14:19 [#00056432]

rF from purf on 2001-11-28 15:08 [#00056449]

what i call it most of the time:
non-repetitive electronica, braindance

how i explain it to people unfamiliar with NRE:
experimental electronic music

jand from Chelmsford,Essex,Uk on 2001-11-28 15:24 [#00056450]

The only time I'd ever use the term IDM is on this Mb or on
the internet...it's not something I'd say to anyone in real
life...

Chris Ochre from Newcastle, UK. (www.mp3.com/ochre) on 2001-11-28 15:37 [#00056452]

Electronic Listening Music, or ELM. But then, that could
include Jean Michel Jarre, Mike Oldfield etc couldn't it?
Scratch that one then.

My stuff tends to be CDM, Childish Dance Music.

Ah sod it. Experimental Electronica, Electronic Bollox.

crayon_kid from the inner reaches of your soul... on 2001-11-28 15:49 [#00056453]

FreakyNinoBrown from usass on 2001-11-28 19:12 [#00056509]

i never really got too stuck up on labels...i call it idm
openly, cause people usually know what i am talking
about...i do think it is pretty pretentious, that whole
intelligent thing, and i hate dance music with a passion,
but idm it is and idm it shall be...to late to change that

REPHLEX~ology from UK on 2001-11-28 19:44 [#00056512]

Listening to aphex and []pusher makes me think difficuit
listening.

Frag on 2001-11-28 20:13 [#00056517]

When I listen to music, I don't bob my head, or dance, or
whatever...I try to enjoy my music to the fullest...I can't
really do homework well (although I do it anyway, heh) with
music on, because I find myself stopping to listen to the
greatest parts.

IDM? Not really. I like calling it what it is,
Electronica/Electronic, Computer Generated ... whatever.
Stuff like Squarepusher and Nine Inch Nails is also good,
the combination of real instruments with computer
synthesizers...don't know what to call that.

ICH? Instrumental and Computer Hybrid?

Taxi on 2001-11-28 20:20 [#00056518]

If you really CARE what its called, then maybe IDM is
offensive.

I never really put much faith in the term.

Anyways, why are we forcing modesty upon the musicians. I
think a lot of IDMusicians are highly intelligent. Look at
most dance music. Fuck. IDM isn't really even dance music.

Have you ever thought that the title was totally tongue and
cheek?

PearlsGirrl from chicago on 2001-11-28 23:21 [#00056551]

its just a word. 3 letters rather.

who cares!

zetre on 2001-11-28 23:24 [#00056553]

Take out the I and the D, then you´re on to something.
I call it electronica.

Gonzola from stockholm on 2001-11-28 23:36 [#00056563]

Gonzola from stockholm on 2001-11-28 23:43 [#00056570]

zetre, yea i think most people call it electronica in
sweden, or? i've never heard anyone say idm over here

Ophecks from Nova Scotia on 2001-11-28 23:44 [#00056571]

The_Funkmaster from Newfoundland, Canada on 2001-11-28 23:56 [#00056573]

purposes, but still, it doesn't need to go any further then
that...
