please stop yourself.. both songs sample "help me love" like
i said before. trust me on this. i love isaac hayes' music
and i can tell you which song they sampled, plus it's
confirmed by the very reliable and very cool page i linked a
few messages ago as well as other sample sites.

most of it is right but not in this case. i discovered this
site years ago, it's the best tricky web page by far. but
listen to the songs and tell me who's right.

4 years

I just checked my dummy and maxinquaye original cds... and
they say that the sampled track in both cases is :

Isaac Hayes - Ike's Rap II

what can you say to that?
did portishead and tricky make a mistake when crediting the
sample in their cd info?

I repeat: I just read it on both my dummy and maxinquaye
original cds

björk
pj harvey
múm girls
miss kittin
...err, this is tough.

because although women like liz fraser, beth gibbons,
martina topley bird (is her solo record any good? i cant
make my mind up), valerie etienne & jennifer charles have
esquisite voices - theyre not usually responsible for the
production of the track itself.

i liked neneh cherry's "woman" lp.
don't know enough of tori amos' stuff to judge either way.
norah jones' record is charming enough in its own way..

why do you think it is that men so heavily outweigh women in
music production terms when its clear from the women that
we've all listed in this thread that they have so much to
offer..?

self-correction: its neneh cherry's MAN lp - the track was
woman..
and from just flicking through the tracks, it was a good
album.
can anyone recommend any other neneh cherry records?
how about pj harvey? i have
storiesfromthecitystoriesfromthesea, and i can recall some
of her older tunes (though not by name) - what other albums
do you recommend?
and how about tori amos.. where should i start? i only know
cornflake girl off the top of my head.

yeah, but it is it as simple as that? bjork and a few
notable exceptions aside, even a lot of the best female
producers don't seem to be outstripping the best males.
at the end of the day - its not the music, not the sex of
who made it thats important, but you do wonder sometimes.

"ike's rap II" is the same track as "help me love".. it's a
medley (found on the 'black moses' album), but the liner
notes are right because they only sampled the first half of
the song, not the whole medley. sorry for the confusion, i
forgot they were the same track..

liz fraser isn't responsible for production? that's like
saying sinead o'connor or annie lennox just sing.. liner
notes don't lie (like nacmat just proved!).. i assume you
mean production not in the traditional rock sense but in the
"plays instruments, writes music" sense (hmm, i always used
to call that being a musician, but i guess if there's a
synth in there somewhere it's being a producer). liz fraser
has done lots of electronic production (as have my other
examples of sinead and annie lenox). i bet beth and some of
the others do more than they get credit for but i don't know
that for a fact.

that said, this is favorite female artists.. you can be an
amazing female artist just singing (yep, you don't even have
to write the words!) or doing whatever you do.
