i was reading pitchforkmedias top 100 albums and when they
listed boc-mhtrtc they classifed boc as "folktronica"

i think that is a pretty good description/term.. well after
doing a search for it on the mb it only came up 3 times..
so what other artists would be classifed as folktronica?
what are you rthoughts on the genre?

manitoba (especially "up in flames")
four tet
frog pocket

generally i think of folktronica as being music created
using samples of guitar and other acoustic instruments, but
sequenced on a computer. usually combined with sounds and
ideas found in other genres like "idm". hehe

not sure if that's the "real" definition of folktronica
tho.

anyway, i like the artists listed above, whatever you want
to call them.

Yeah, that's a pretty good definition I reckon... also the
instruments are often played by the artist themselves rather
than sampled from other records.

would describing boc as folktronica be accurate?

Probably, I'd say yes... (despite them not usually using a
pc for sequencing)

A bit borderline really. Quite a bit less folktronica than
múm, quite a bit more than vsnares :D

I'll never describe Boards of Canada as "folktronica", even
if the word's in Webster's dictionary with a picture of or
the words "Boards of Canada" as the definition. It's a
horrible name, like most genre titles.

I made up a musical classification for manifestevil, when
directing people to his wedsite, that I was pretty proud
of........ "horrorcore"

horrorcore was coined in the early 90s to describe hip-hop
groups like the gravediggaz who rap in a horror movie/comic
book style.

To be honest the term "folktronica" makes me nauseous. Worse
than "IDM".

what about bogdan's "myloveilove"? guitar, accordian,
singing, and the occasional drum. it doesn't get folkier
than an album full of sleepy love songs.
