does anyone know where i can find some? i heart strings
and yet i am deprived of them at the moment except for the
old casio but i think i've used every range of sound i

Garritan Personal Orchestra looks ace for the price -
something like $300. The demos are pretty swanky too - have
a google for it. You get a version of Kontakt to play em.

Strings are notoriously hard to synthesise acurately, so get
something sample based.

Yes it is.

You need to do some very careful programming this sort of
stuff, if it's completely perfectly quantisised it sounds a
bit unnatural (particularly noticeable when there's only one
instrument like a piano solo).
