i was always hearing this name, from time to time,
everywhere, especially for collaborations with artists i
liked (Merzbow and...? i don't remember who!)... i haven't
payed attention until yet but now i'm really wondering - who
is he? what kind of music does it do? why does he seem so
well-known but has only two records listed on AMG?

he was in faith no more, and he toured with dillenger escape
plan, whn their singer left... and he's done a bunch of
other awesome stuff. this guy rocks.

I'll help a little. He's done two solo albums, but most of
his stuff is collaborations. The solo stuff I highly
recommend leaving until you've heard all his other stuff. As
well as who Tragedy mentioned he's in Fantomas, Tomahawk,
some John Zorn stuff, Mr Bungle... I'm thinking...

never guess I was hungover.

i agree, reflex!

patton does a lot of experimental stuff and his record label
is ipecac records which has more info. I also recommend
Fantomas, Tomahawk, Lovage, Maldoror, his many
collaborations with John Zorn, Mr. Bungle, and
Melvins-Fantomas Big Band.

FNM were excellent. Some of Patton's best work is on Angel
Dust and King For A Day.

Tragedy's wrong, he never toured with Dillinger Escape Plan.
He recorded an EP with them (called "Irony is a Dead
Scene," which features a cover of "Come to Daddy") and
played a few shows at most, but never a full tour.

They did have a new song on the soundtrack to the movie
"Underworld" called "Baby's First Coffin." It had the new
singer Greg on it. I really didn't like the song. It has a
breakdown with clean guitars and clean melodic vocals that
sound very "emo." What a goddamn shame. Hopefully it's not
a sign of what the new album will be like (whenever it's
finally released).

offline Amnesiac from ERIE (United States) on 2003-11-28 10:17 [#00969033]
Points: 2084 Status: Lurker

Yeah they played it when I saw them in september, their new
lead singer is great but the song isn't. It's kind of
nu-metalish and the breakdown isn't as devistating as a
dillinger breakdown should be.

I agree he is completely overrated, but only in the way that
bands that attract mentalists are. Radiohead are overrated.
Aphex is overrated. Tool are overrated. Why? Because the
fans of each band are not just casual listeners but die-hard
psychos. *logs out of xltronic*

and just because it has "Come to Daddy" doesn't mean it's
their best work. Oh yeah, that and it's only an EP.

You obviously haven't heard the "Calculating Infinity" or
their self-titled for that matter, each of which are
infinately more amazing than "Irony is a Dead Scene".

UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
Oh yeah and for the record, Tomahawk
UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCKS

They opened for Tool when I saw them last year. Mike
ridiculed the audience (it was in florida) by calling us
rednecks and making fun of disney, he just seemed like a
complete crank.

Also, he did some sort of beatbox thing with a gas mask on
that was stupid as hell. Just shrieking like the dumb
little girl that he is.

As you can tell, there are few musicians I hate more than
Mike Patton.

(just to note, this is NOT supposed supposed to come across
as hostile!)

why are you making assumptions about why i like this album
best by dillinger? the come to daddy cover is the weakest
on the album, the other three tracks are incredible(the ctd
cover is good but not quite as good as the others). and, i
have heard their other releases, i have under the running
board and have heard calculating infinity so dont tell me
"you obviously havent heard" the other cds, I have.

and tomahawk does not suck, i saw em live too and they were
very good.

your thoughts on mike patton are just that, only your
thoughts, the same with myself and everyone else...you dont
have to ridicule others who like his work.

on the other hand, i can see where your coming from because
i definately have bands\artists i dont like...plaid...uziq
to name a few, so i understand how you might not like patton
at all too. all i can tell you is, you would HATE his solo
cds heh.

mike patton rocks, Mr bungle kicks arse!!!!Saw em live and
they rocked, love arse on fire and girls of porn. that album
is probably my fave...

"My hand gets tired and my dick gets sore, but the girls of
porn want more, so i flick through the pages one more time
and i just let the jism fly" hehe, love it.

Was going to see a live broadcast on the netto this guys
house for a live set of patton and merzbow in japan but they
mixed up the times by about 12 hours.

Tomahawk does not suck. I own their first album and I've
heard their new one and they're both GREAT. It just seems
that EVERYONE who saw them opening for Tool hated them.
It's bizarre; I've talked to like 5 different people who all
said that.

hahah i saw one of those tool shows where tomahawk opened,
and mike was pretty funny. i mean, come on, he has a point,
lots of tool fans are rednecks, though it was pretty ballsy
of him to be calling them on at at a tool concert. anyhow
they were the most interesting part of the show.

anyhow, faith no more is one of the best rock bands i have
ever heard, and if you've got no respect, well, enjoy
radiohead.
