Ah .. what the heck. Thought I'd start a thread - comments in general welcome. Thought I'd start a discussion on the Beatles and The Floyd (I have all the albums apart from Relics) - :) I was quite into the beatles about 6 years and then it sort of got rejuvenated with the Anthology release. Later, I got into Pink Floyd, and especially love the early stuff. AHM - quite possibly my favourite. Should really get Relics as it is VERY much at what I consider their special little peak. Dark side is still amazing, and Wish you were here.. but I think even Animals and the Wall are getting a little weak - that is perhaps a too strong a word - but they started slipping From Animals onwards. :) |

The Beatles Anthologies i thought where amazing, gave you a real insight into the workings of a band. I was listening to Atom Heart Mother the other day and i still cant stick the 1st side, side 2 is brilliant though, If is a great tune, the little drill thats goes off in the backgound when he says 'please dont put your wires in my brain' always buzzes me up for some reason. can't believe you aint got Relics, absolute masterpeice, Syd at his best. anyone see the programme on bbc the other night about Syd, good stuff. |

The Beatles are the be-all and end-all of music, it was all down hill from there, baby. For a band to be THAT creative and innovative and unique, COMBINED with the commercial success, nobody comes close. Pink Floyd, I think, went downhill after WYWHere. Animals IS a bit weak, and the Wall is just pompous, but still good. |

ALL FLOYD IS GOOD!. and no one is allowed to dissagree with narkotic 'cuase hes older than you. i like the late beatles stuff. sargent pepper is my favorite. my favorite floyd albums are wish you were here animals and dark side of the moon. the wall is also wonderfull but who doesnt like that one :) |

I love Pink Floyd... the Waters stuff anyways... and The Division Bell is pretty good as well... my favorites are probably Meddle, and Wish You Were Here... |

All Floyd IS good, but some Floyd is better than others. As for the Beatles, well, the only word that does them justice is FLAWLESS!!! |

I have to say - I'm not really down with Final Cut - its ok - And the Gilmour stuff.. never really got into to it, as the Floyd of the early 70's .. !! Division Bell I think apart from a few singles is quite weak. They start worrying about sound production too much in my opinion. ? Gets quite boring and drawn out. Re: AHM - the first side - to me makes the album. I know there are other pieces that perhaps are a bit more polished off - I know a lot of people that prefer Meddle over AHM. But for some reason I really like the strangeness .. the tune - the grandness of AHM ... Second side IS pretty good. - Alan's Psychedelic Breakfast you have to be in the mood for sort of - Pretty cool tune towards the end tho. |

I am not that keen on P.U.L.S.E. I liked it at first shit loads, then it just wore off. Most of my albums don't do that. Maybe it has been too long since I last listened to it and I might have a different point of view now. I will dig through my MDs and see what I think. Everywhere I go I hear Meddle is cool. Experimental too, the way it should be. |

Yeah, I personally Pulse is a bit stale also .. I put it down to Dave Gilmour .. ? Yeah, Meddle is quite experimental - very good even. AHM tho, I would recomend, has a more home made/ earthy kind of feel to it? But both are highly recommended ones. I can see why some people prefer Meddle over AHM .. Guess you'll just have to get both. Saucer Full of Secrets is quite Experimental at times - shall we say .. But quite good. Some slightly not so good Tunes on it .. but Jugband Blues is an absolute Gem. The best song on the album IMHO |

I really liked animals when I used to have it. Right now I have trouble listening to anything without amazing production tho. I thought pulse was ok, actually. Quite impressive to see a thread that has gone 3+ messages and is still keeping on topic. |

I just thought that Revolution 9 by The Beatles has similarities to Gwarek2. They're both sound collages and Revolution 9 was done 30+ years ago! Pink Floyd were great but I wasnt too fond of The Wall. Im not really into them concept albums... |

Concept albums are good if its about the music .. I'm not really in for like political or shit like that. Could be digging a really big hole .. but like Dark Side - that was quite Avant at the time, first ever release to have continuous play - interplay or whatever you call it, - ie Concept album .. but i don't really think the music suffered. The Wall was like a different motivated Concept .. - interesting, but unfortunately didn't do too nicely on the Album - some nice tracks tho -- but yeah .. would have to agree - sort of. |

Yeah I mean I got to admit, The Wall DID have some very good material. I just think the Floyd went downhill when they got all obsessed with the war and shit. Maybe that could just be me. I dunno. :) |

Too true .. Roger I believe was the main culprit in that.. They should have had like press conferences or something - instead of taking it out on the musice? Ah .. but who am I to say - they made pretty damn good music for such a long time - The Wall concert - the concept however (as far as I know, doesn't have anything to do with war) is quite a cool idea tho.. |

That was the one where they had people building a wall and at the last track there's only one brick left and at the last second the brick goes up..? (or something like that anyway.) It was a cool idea. Like to see someone these days pull off something like that. |

Yeah, that .. and the whole fake band thing!!! Can't remember which song it was (In the flesh??) The had a fake band play on the stage with their masks .. and then half way (through whatever song) they suddenly burst out this huge guitar solo or something .. with the spot light suddenly highlighting the REAL BAND! - had them fooled all along. :) |

The Wall leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I would of liked to see Syd Barrett keep going, but I guess it was better that he left, because they only got better, and I think Barrett would have taken them in a VASTLY different direction. |

A Nice Pair: Piper At The Gates Of Dawn and Saucerful Of Secrets This is my favorite floyd to listen to...Syd Barrett's songwriting takes the cake. I have the first 1974 US edition on vinyl.... I also have his solo release of "The Madcap Laughs" and "Barrett" reissued as a 2 record set. This release is nuts! |

I agree, I wish the Beatles had more available to them. But it didn't matter, they were such good songwriters, it didn't bloody matter. They overcame it. I don't like their early stuff too much, but A Hard Day's Night has a spirit and a zest for life that no computer or Reason or Fruity Loops could EVER duplicate, no sir. |

well I meant the Peter Gabriel led Genesis... they were great... the Phil Collins genesis, although it was decent, doesn't compare to the Gabriel Genesis... but yeah, it's all just a matter of opinion... I just don't find the beatles music does anything for me... it's not that I think they suck, or anything, cause I totally respect what they did for music and everything... they are the innovative, influencial, AND commercially successful bands ever... how could I say they sucked? I just don't find their music appealing personally... |

Selling England by the Pound is a great album... my favorite Genesis album... The Lamb is amazing, but has its flaws, where as Selling England is pretty much perfect IMO... yeah Genesis were so talented... Phil Collins on drums, Tony Banks on Keyboards (one of the best), Steve Hackett was a good guitarest, and Mike Rutherford was a good bassist... even Peter Gabriel on the flute was amazing... |

Re: Naphex Definetly!! Love Syd .. I got Madcap and Opel - Quite strange, because although the production is VERY amateur - kind of - the music still shines through. Songs such as Birdie Hop and Effervescing Elephant on Opel are possibly some of the nuttiest tunes by Barret I know of. But yeah.. Piper is brilliant. .. And I just can't get over Jugband Blues . Song #5 on saucer is quite nice also - i esp like the part just before the organ comes in with the whale time thing .. Shame they didn't do the same on the Live version (umma gumma). |

OH .. and Careful of that axe eugene .. mmmmhhh... Anyone had a close look [i haven't and wont get] at Echoes .. quite nice. They have a lot of stuff referring to their albums n that.. like on the back cover, the Axe (careful of that .. ) A bike . The room has the poster of meddle (the ear!) - um ... etc etc.. THE wall faces --- if one keeps looking,quite cool considering they had so many albums. |
