i'm going there in may for a month and a half and was
wondering if any natives or people who have been there could
give me suggestions on places to go, things to do, etc.

I hopefully go myself next year. It is expensive I have
been told, but I just want to go to some electrical stores
and get pissed in a cheap dive.

I think a few people who come here have played over there.
They could probably give you good ideas of where to go :D

yeah, i'm getting a vague idea of how i'll do the trip, but
its still in the very early planning stages. i'm also trying
to learn japanese, which i don't think is going to be as
successful.
luckily i know some people who have family over there, so i
can get away with a couple of nights not paying for hotels.

You are a very lucky man...if I could choose one place to
visit in the world Japan would be it.

As for specifics, I don't know, check out all that you can!
The gardens that are in a lot of the major cities are
beautiful.

i should go there some day. i might get the opportunity to
do so within the next few years perhaps, since i plan to
learn Japanese all throughout college. my prof's hometown is
Hiroshima. she suggests that i go to Japan sometime or get a
major or minor in Japanese since i'm good at the language,
even though it's just entry level.

oh, and have fun in Hawaii! i went to O'ahu in May last year
& i had a blast =)

yeah, i basically decided i was going to do a large trip,
and i began checking places off a list, and japan is first.
just somewhere i've always wanted to go but never had the
time or money to see it.

Too bad that they also
1: Mostly don't that good (a few do, but im talking,
mostly)
2: They know wery little english, mostly.
3: They live in Japan.
Anyhow, i still have a dream myself, of going to Japan. Its
so exotic, and still, probably the most "Western" country in
asia. Very fascinating.

I can help with this one.. I dont anymore but I lived in
Japan for years.

That country totally kicks arse and a good time is
guaranteed.

Places you must visit; Tokyo, Kyoto (for temples, gardens
and culture), Osaka (incredible aquarium, funny people, good
food and drink), Hiroshima, Yokohama, Nikko, Kamakura.

Parts of Tokyo you should go to: Shibuya, Roppongi,
Harajuku, Aoyama, Shinjuku, Kabuki-cho, Akasaka, Ueno.

I dont even know where to start for stuff you should do in
Tokyo. way too much.

BTW in response to one of the posts above about Japanese
girls digging western guys, that is not strictly true. Some
dig you, some want to sleep with or marry a foreignor just
for passport, some other girls would cross the road rather
than talk to a non Japanese. Dont expect the ladies there to
give it up that easily if you are just on holiday either.
Good luck though.

If you have more specific questions, I can help.

i've been there for two weeks on a school trip...
it was great : )
lucky you!

just be sure to take enough money with you (some things are
very expensive, fruit among others...) and learn the habits
too (like, shower yourself first to wash yourself, then take
a hot bath to relax, don't wash yourself in the bath - for
the wc, you have like 50% chances to find just a kind of
hole-thing without a seat and 50% chances to find a
super-high-tech toilet seat à la star trek with heating and
lots of cool buttons to push at random if you don't
understand to see what it does)... also you cannot always
count on the japanese to speak english, they don't know it
as much as you'd think they'd do... and... also the
salutations and all that...

thanks for the info, tokyojo.
yeah, i know some japanese people and alot of that stuff
about women digging foreign guys isn't true. i'm tired of
white guys objectifying asian women anyways, and thats
definitely not why i'm going. but it'd be cool to meet some
new people there.

no, jump into tokyo. It's bad ass! i've got mixed feeligns
about japan...

Definatly hit up ropongi for some clubs and a quick grab for
za sackin'.

When you come over, definatly give me a hit! I can hook you
up with free room and board for a while. And i'm not talking
abouth those small as shit shoebox apts!

that'd be tight. i am wondering how difficult it is to meet
people if you're not staying for a particularly long amount
of time. i don't really want to wander around tokyo alone,
as i'm going solo over there as is. anyway, any other info
would be nice, maybe hotspots in the city, etc.

yeah, deffinatly look me up. when do you plan on stopping
by.

As far as meeting people on short notice; japan's very
disected. It's almost like a buffett, you want floozies; go
here! you want one night stands, go there! you want
foriengers, go there! If you want to date japanes, learn the
language...if you want one night stands...it's pretty easy
if your not of asian decent.

Watch out for the Yakuza (they run more shit than you know.
Keep on the good side of them, and you'll get a treat every
birthday and christmas(not a "godfather"-treat)).

Don't eat fish served the wrong way, and don't serve fish
the wrong way (belly facing away from the person eating).

i'm definitely going to be flying into tokyo, probably on
the last day of may or the first of june. i think i'll check
into a capsule hotel just to psyche myself out.
i hear roppongi (sp?) is the big club/youth center of the
city, so i'll have to check that area out.
