xtal from U.S on 2001-11-26 21:37 [#00055809]

whats the IDM genre? what does it stand for??? and did Aphex
do u duo thing with some one called MR M? well...i would
suggest all u music lovers to get this song called "Long
Skirt" by Mr M, its exactly like the stuff Aphex does. and
does anyone know which album "Hexagon" is from?

IDM stands for Intelligent Dance Music (also referred to as
braindance). It's called intelligent because the sounds are
usually manually programmed. IDM songs are likely to be
non-linear (unlike trance and techno). While other kinds of
dance can be made in 10-20 minutes (come up with a catchy
tune, pick the sounds from a synthesizer and repeat it), IDM
can have very complicated and unrepetitive drum patterns.
Unfortunately I can't answer the rest of your question.

What do you mean by non-linear?

IDM is the name of a genre of music that seems to focus on
copying Autechre, Aphex Twin, Boards of Canada, or one of
their clones.

I prefer Braindance. or perhaps Braincore...yeah. Braincore.

I use the term sometimes. The Rephlex label obviously don't
mind using it. I think I read somewhere that Richard thought
it was one big joke basically, to a certain extent I agree
with him:

sitting there and thinking simply "This is a wicked tune" is
one thing.

sitting there and thinking "hmmmm, yes, oh yes this is so
much more intelligent than normal music." That would kind of
take it out of it a bit, it is possible to dissapear up your
own arse if you get too obsessed with something. Even if
you're going against the norm. "Intelligent Dance Music"
seems to encourage that from my point of view. Maybe
everyone else comes from a different angle, maybe I'm
talking shit, forgive me, it's quarter to one and I'm pretty
tired, peak time for making a dick out of myself on MBs. Few
more posts, then thats my lot.

hahahahaaha, yea, intelligent music does sound kindda lame,
hahahaha, but i guess the ppl who make these GENRES are like
aristocratic sophisticated fuckers, hehehe....anyways, tell
me some similar songs like xtal to d.load.
