Microphone Recommendations?

I'm looking for a decent multipurpose dynamic mike -
something versatile enough to use for instruments and
vocals, if that's not a contradiction in terms. I mean, I'm
not looking to record Celine Dion or Yo Yo Ma here, but I do
want something better than what Radio Shack has to offer -
something from Shure or Audio Technica or AKG perhaps. I was
asking the clerk in a music store for recommendations and he
seemed to know less than I do if such a thing is possible!

my V-Tech Unidirectional has always worked fine for me, but
i don't think they make them anymore.

but Shure is a good brand/place to start.

Hm they still have v-techs - spozed to be similar to the
shure 57/58 - what model do you have?

Anyone else have experience with the AKGs, Audio Technicas
or Beyerdynamics?

V-Tech are a good balance of efficiency, durability and
quality. My V-Tech only cost me about 40 bucks, and it was
worth every penny. I believe i bought it almost three years
ago, and only just now has it begun to give me the slightest
of problems. It's also very low-noise.

I'm going to rent a few mikes next weekend and see what the
differences are - I'll see if they have that model.
