The_Funkmaster from Newfoundland, Canada on 2001-11-26 15:45 [#00055703]

get some steely dan man... Aja, Guacho, KAty Lied, either of
those... get some Sting... I want to buy some of Stings solo
stuff... it seems pretty cool... I also want to get lots
more electronica stuff... theres so much to buy!!!

wayout from a plastic bubble on 2001-11-26 16:26 [#00055721]

it looks like you need some squarepusher.
his album 'music is rotted one note' is similar in style to
bitches brew.
his catalog is pretty diverse, but all of his stuff is
great, i'd recomend getting everything you can find by him,
most notably 'feed me weird things' and the album i
mentioned above, but again, its all great.

For those with a liking for the mental side of Aphex, get
venetian snares on planet mu. rather good.

You must get something by luke vilbert/wagon christ. Without
it, your life is not complete.

Ophecks from Nova Scotia on 2001-11-26 19:58 [#00055789]

I'd want to type mine out, but it would take FOREVER, it's
huge. And a lot of it is crap I don't listen to anymore.
(Bush X, Green Day, AC/DC, etc)

The_Funkmaster from Newfoundland, Canada on 2001-11-26 20:07 [#00055790]

yeah, a lot of the ones from mine I don't listen to much...
every now and then I'll put it on, but not very often...

Ophecks from Nova Scotia on 2001-11-26 20:23 [#00055793]

Nothing by the Beatles?

Watch your back, I'm afraid I can't let you live.

aperson on 2001-11-26 21:21 [#00055802]

My... good... music collection. Unfortunately I used to be
into death metal (soulfly, slipknot) before I got into IDM
so here goes.

Infected Mushroom:
Classical Mushroom

Juno Reactor:
Shango
Bible of Dreams

Aphex Twin:
SAW 85-92
Drukqs
ICBYD
Come to Daddy EP

Unfortunately that's all, although I hope to get SAW II, RDJ
Album, AB3, and autechre/plaid/Boards of Canada stuff for
Christmas.

The_Funkmaster from Newfoundland, Canada on 2001-11-26 21:39 [#00055810]

The Beatles don't do anything for me man... I can appreciate
what they did for music, and I respect them and all that,
but I'm not really a fan of there music... I was gonna pick
up the white album for Christmas last year, but I decided to
get Us by Peter Gabriel (which is very good by the way)... I
dunno, they're just not my cup a tea...

The_Funkmaster from Newfoundland, Canada on 2001-11-26 21:42 [#00055811]

but seriously, I haven't seen many Steely Dan fans on
here... I've mentioned it before, and haven't gotten many
responses... you all should check them out... the music is
so cool, and smooth... Gaucho is my fav, but Aja is the most
popular, but they're all good... it's good jazzy rock... it
sparked my interest in jazz...

Jimmy from DE on 2001-11-26 22:11 [#00055828]

igottapeeigottapeeigottapeeigottapeeigottapeeigottapeeigott
I have 15 aphex twin releases but I cant name them not apee

The_Funkmaster from Newfoundland, Canada on 2001-11-26 22:19 [#00055830]

hey, check out the song Your Gold Teeth II by Steely Dan for
the most awesome guitar solo ever (in my opinion)...

Scary Bear on 2001-11-27 00:16 [#00055878]

Funkmaster: Fcukin hell man cheers for writing all that down
that must have taken a while. Would you say that Meddle is
the best of Pink Floyd. I've heard different stuff. I have
PULSE on minidisc but haven't listened to it in a while, it
wasn't agreeing with me. Will definitly check out this
Steely Dan. I liked a good many tunes in your collection.

Ophecks: That's alright man!!

Mark: Yeah 'Blowback' is alright but it doesn't go past
there. Big fuckin dissapointment when I went online and saw
Tricky talking in interviews about getting all commercial
and loving it. My eyes started watering.

Everybody: Thankyou for contributing to this topic so much
you have inspired me quite a bit. I have copied it and saved
it. Will do so again if there is anything significant that
people still want to put here. Thanks again.

Laters.

Piece.

The_Funkmaster from Newfoundland, Canada on 2001-11-27 01:41 [#00055895]

hehe, yeah it took a while... but I had time, so I figured,
what the hey... personally I love Meddle... it's close to
the top of my best Pink Floyd list... Echoes is such a great
song...

The_Funkmaster from Newfoundland, Canada on 2001-11-27 01:43 [#00055896]

I dunno if it's their best... I mean, The Wall, Dark Side,
and Wish You Were Here are all great... but it's close...

Xanatos from NYC on 2001-11-27 02:01 [#00055899]

like.

Thanks again everyone, this MB is full of quality dudes.

Korben Dallas from _ on 2001-11-27 11:03 [#00056027]

Plug : Drum n Bass for Papa (with the bonus CD) - I would
very much recommend. Um .. some say minimal Drum n Bass .. I
guess it aint as heavy as the likes of Kemistry n Storm

But there is so much shit out there .. it really is
difficult to say what you should get.

Some more Autechre .. EP7

BOC : Music Has the Right ... etc.

Amon Tobin : Bricolage or Permutations

Did you have any Squarepusher- HIGHLY recommended. Um .. ALL
of them .. but Hard Normal Daddy/Big Loada (US with Port
Rhombus EP on it)/Go Plastic probably a good place to start
.. or his very first one .. Music for Weird People or
something (got it on MD) ..

Um.. what else .. Some PAN Sonic - for some Finnish
Electronica

DJ Krush and/or DJ Spooky (for the more DJ SHadow style
thing) ..

Think that is pretty much all I can think of right now,
without reeling off a huge list

Scary Bear on 2001-11-27 11:07 [#00056029]

ah, wagon christ and luke v. are the same person! alright I
am a learner. Got some snippets playing now. Quite cool.

Korben Dallas from _ on 2001-11-27 11:23 [#00056031]

would you believe that plug is the very same Luke Vibert
also ?? I know!!

Korben Dallas from _ on 2001-11-27 11:32 [#00056035]

Didn't mean to come across so patronizing - :)

Fernz on 2001-11-27 11:35 [#00056038]

Hey Ophecks, I feel the same way bout the Beatles as you do.
My collection is...
BEATLES
Sgt Pepper
Revolver
Rubber Soul
Past Masters 1/2
White Album
BBC Sessions
Hard Day's Night
Anthology Box Set :)
Help
Yellow Submarine (and the re-issue)
Red/Blue
With The Beatles
Let It Be
1
(the "lurrve tracks" on vinyl)

Paul McCartneys solo albums
Lennon's albums (minus Double Fantasy and Two Virgins) and
that 4cd boxset
All Things Must Pass by George Harrison

And I have most of Pink Floyds stuff except Division Bell,
Meddle and Pulse.

Nice to see there's Aphex Twin fans into that stuff too. :)

Chrispy from UK on 2001-11-27 11:41 [#00056041]

Beatles really didnt do anything for me either.... The White
album is well over rated. 'number 9... number 9... number 9'
Still alot of good songs though.

Korben Dallas from _ on 2001-11-27 12:58 [#00056051]

Fernz/Ophex I got:

Please Please Me
With The Beatles
Beatles For Sale
A Hard Days Night
Help
Rubber Soul
Revolver
Sgt. Peppers
Magical Mystery Tour
White
Abbey Road
Let It Be
Yellow Submarine
Pastmasters 1/2
Anthology 1,2,3

Yet, i don't quite feel the same way as Ophex does .. :)

I respect them n all .. Got into it when I was 10 - but you
know - sliced bread is pretty damn fine also.

I mean, they are damn good - but its just easy ? to lose the
plot a little over this band. I mean, ok, especially
Revovler on they are a mind blow, especially with the times
in mind. I mean Tomorrow Never Knows is still one of my all
time favourite songs .. and the White Album wouldn't be out
of place if it was released today .. But - there is some
pretty good stuff NOW. It'd be like you know - going all
blotto over Aphex in 50 years time, but not realising that
there are equivalent type artists around in 2051 ??? No hard
feelings, but its bound to fuel some discussion?

Oh and just a matter of curiosity .. was it before or after
the anthologies were released that you guys got into them
???

Apologies Bear - perhaps I should have started a new thread
:I

Korben Dallas from _ on 2001-11-27 13:11 [#00056054]

And I have .. See "Fernz/Ophecks ..."

Scary Bear on 2001-11-27 13:57 [#00056067]

Korben: No worries, I'm quite proud of starting this topic
is is a pretty good read all the way through! Don't know
what you mean about the time thing though, I don't want come
across the wron way but why is the time good music is made
so relevant to you??

Ophecks from Nova Scotia on 2001-11-27 15:29 [#00056098]

The Beatles changed my life, and now Aphex is doing the same
thing. A million years from now, the Beatles will be as
fresh as ever, and Eleanor Rigby will still turn heads and
inpress.
