chill man. i think brutally violent games that grab gameplay
devices from grand theft auto are extremely played out. this
game doesn't interest me because its capitalising on the
idea of killing people as a gameplay device, which, i'm
aware has been a part of gaming since the first games. but
this idea is getting old, and the fact that people are
actually wowed at free form, non linear gameplay that,
instead of instilling a sense of wonder in the gamer,
instead just asks you to kill people in various ways...well,
thats not something i understand. there are games out that
absorb me into a world, and they still manage to be
innovative. this is basically just an excuse for brutal
violence posing as innovative gameplay, and i'm tired of
that.

If the ai is decent this should be an interesting game.
Read the preview then: If you look past the violence this
game seems like it'll be able to support itself on some
fairly intricate strategies. I'm thinking this game is
gonna be like a Running Man type deal where you'll always be
on the run and can't just stomp into a group of people and
start wailing on them. Should be good.

Does look good. Looks like a good mix of games such as GTA3,
Max Payne and Thief.

i read the preview. all i'm saying is that violence is fine
in videogames, but only when it supports a plot or has some
meaning behind it. this is just an excuse for senseless
brutality, and the bottom line is, it looks boring as all
fuck. vice city got boring after half an hour, and this
looks like the same thing. i'm sure younger people will pine
over it and say its the greatest thing ever once it comes
out, but i'd rather play a miyamoto game any day of the
week. little to no violence, actual innovation, and
masterful execution.

whatever, i think that the gimmick of death needs to be more
and more..... gta is amazing and will always be fun to play,
but its not violent enough for me, I hope manhunt lets me
chop some fuckin heads.

i own 13 playstation 2 games and 10 ps1 games, I know what I
like. and I want variation, this is a game ive been waiting
to come out.

and younger people? your going to use that?, thats weak man.

oh man,
i could never get board of vice city. i had to remove it
from my house so that it wouldn't eat up all my time.

yeah really, i'm almost 28 and i thirst for violent video
games. my favorite game ever, Counter Strike had virtually
no storyline. it was all about skillz and killing. again,
i had to remove it from my house because i was playing it
like 12 hours a day for 3 straight months (while i was
unemployed).

evolume: damn rights! ill be 21 in a month and i loved
violent games, always have! CS was great... all about da
skillz! that WAS the storyline man.. over and over again,
better and better.

its not about younger people, its state of mind, im bored
with crappy ass games that dont deliver the goods, fun ..
gory fun! heh.

I'd rather play a new 3D Kirby game for Gamecube.

I am definitely looking forward to Max Payne 2 for Xbox
though... it's getting great reviews and the first game was
very smart, this one is getting better reviews (for PC)
across the board.

Ophecks: hmm Kirby was a very cool game back in the day..
long time ago now. I hate gamecube though, so blah....

evolume: yeahyeah... CS .. many lost hours/days there! hehe
I understand.

Grand Theft Auto is a smart game... it's violent but it's
got a certain pizazz to it, it's smart violence and well
designed. It spawned too many halfwit games that lack
substance though.

Has anyone played the new Xbox GTA's? Any notable
differences other than that awesome custom soundtrack thing?

Ophecks:.... you are totally right, too many shit end games
that came out trying to be like it man that sucks.

my main problem with hyper violent games is actually the
same thing ophecks pointed out with gta. there are two many
fucking rip offs that are just half assed imitations, and
they crowd the market, pushing away potential titles that
might actually bring something new to the table.
and i own ten systems and about two hundred games, so i
think i know what i like as well.

zaphod: either way it doesnt matter really, I mean I doubt
Manhunt is going to be a GTA rip off, it sounds nothing like
it. Its like GTA meets Metal Gear Solid 2 or something.....
kinda. I read the full IGN.com review and it sounded quite
promising....
