Are my tracks covered against theft when they are uploaded
onto the net?

yeah

cause technically youve "published" them

but then you just have to prove you made em (the original
song file).

I mean, they technically are safe... but im sure there is
loopholes and legalities... that if someone had a good
lawyer... could take your songs somehow

*shrug*

i think most hosting sites, like zebox and such, place
legality messages on their sites protecting your works.

i don't know how it is in the UK, but in the US, copyright
is AUTOMATIC the moment you put something in a fixed or
tangible form. (on some sort of physical medium)

just make a disc of things, mail it to yourself so it will
be postmarked, so if anyone DOES want to steal your music,
you can whip that out and use it as evidence.

that doesnt always work either

bottom line... if you REALLY want to be safe... pay for the
official copyright. its the only 100% method

but I do think youll be ok (not downplaying your music... I
just dont think people would steal it, and try to release
it... I mean, how many times do you hear about that
happening?

Oh yes it is the same here but the posting to yourself thing
is a myth it really is, take it to a bank or a solicitor but
i'm sure that being able to prove having written it with the
song file will be good enough.

come to think of it, Baron Von Ugly and Daily Dose of Cancer
were published - i should get around to copyrighting them
VERY soon.

What you're referring to is called 'poor man's copyright'.
It's complete bollocks.

Day 1: send yourself an unsealed envelope
Day 10: Band X release a new CD
Day 11: buy CD, put it in envelope, seal envelope
Day 12: claim copyright over the CD, after all, you claimed
copyright 9 days before it was released!
