Matthew Shepard monument?

i saw this on another board, but i felt i should post this
here, so the users here can sign the petition against this
evilness..

"(Casper, Wyoming) Anti-gay preacher Fred Phelps has
announced intentions to erect a monument to Matthew Shepard
the gay college student brutally murdered five years ago
near Laramie.
But, the monument will be no memorial. Phelps says the
monument would be 5 to 6 feet tall and made of marble or
granite. It would bear a bronze plaque bearing the image of
Shepard and have an inscription reading "MATTHEW SHEPARD,
Entered Hell October 12, 1998, in Defiance of God's Warning:
'Thou shalt not lie with mankind as with womankind; it is
abomination.' Leviticus 18:22."
The monument would be erected in downtown Casper, Shepard's
home town. Phelps has sent details of the monument to the
city of Casper city council and there may be nothing the
city can do to prevent it. Phelps said he intends to put up
the monument in City Park, already the location of a
controversial statue of the Ten Commandments."

it's beyond fucked up.
i can't believe how much christianity rules over this
country..

another thing..
why don't they make a shrine saying that many casualties of
the world trade center attacks, assassinated presidents,
etc. etc. etc.. "entered hell" for wearing clothing with
more than one type of fabric. i believe it states that's
also a sin in Leviticus..

heaven or hell, for it is God's right alone to judge"

if it's too late and the monument is erected, here's the
best case:

Fred Phelps inspects the front of the monument. while his
nose is in the marble, we sneak up on the other side, lift
the monument, and topple it on top of Phelps.

who's with me?

ignorant hypocrites need forgiveness, too!

who among us has no ignorance and no hypocricy?

anger and judgement will mute the most noble purpose.

i say we just sneak in and change the plaque when fred's
napping...

i'm not saying they don't need forgiveness, but they need to
"forgive" or leave alone those that they are trying to
defile with a "monument" if they expect to be forgiven as
well.

i say the only plausible thing is to somehow prevent it from
being made, or sneak in there and destroy it, if it is
made..

but if does end up being constructed, that would be a true
loss for anyone with any sense of compassion or empathy
towards the memory of this murdered human being.

i think tibbar had a good quote there..
so often these extreme religious people base their entire
belief about certain kinds of people from one verse, while
completely ignoring other, seemingly more important
verses/ideas.

Dunno. Seemed like the right thing to say. The truth is:
Don't smoke. It'll kill you!

well at least it is a slow, consentual death..
not being tied to a fence, beaten, and then left for dead in
freezing temperatures.

well, actually, i was referring to what happened to matthew
shepard, but if you want to be mr. humorous during this
matter then i guess that is fine, i can't stop you..

I'm not really, but you didn't say that happened to him. I
thought it was just some abstract example.

cue for, i didn't say that you said they don't need
forgiveness. i just think in highly charged emotional cases
like this it's important to remember that attacking mr.
phelps is no different from mr. phelps attacking matthew
shepard. mr. phelps does not forgive because he does not
understand the value and meaning of forgiveness. he
believes he is making the world a better place. yet he
gives us the opportunity to make our forgiveness manifest;
forgiveness has no meaning unless it is made manifest.
forgiveness is one of the means by which the world is
healed.

people like mr. phelps are not going away until all people
express unconditional regard (love, acceptance, forgiveness)
for all people. i realize that some will suggest this is
impossible, and i say that it absolutely is possible.

we should be active and vocal in expressing a message
counter to the venom put forth by mr. phelps, but
associating mr. phelps' distorted vision with "christianity"
(despite his own claims to be a christian), and advocating
his murder cannot be productive responses.

cue 4, my comments in general were not directed at any
particular individual, even though cue for initiated the
thread. i comment when i'm interested in doing so and
regret any implied criticism of your motives.
