I watched Plaid today.
Chris Clark opened. Great stuff. Some brilliant. Some missed the mark. Great presence, though.
Luke Vibert followed. This guy is just the coolest. I am amazed at his sense of humor and stage presence. He played an acid drenched set, that morphed into a all out Plug-fest with a brilliant ending on a Jungele track. In the middle somewhere, he found time to drop in Flow Coma as well. 808 state's Newbuild never dies. Thats a good thing.
Plaid came on last. To dimmed lights and Bob, the robotic eye, they started out on tracks from Spokes. I was stunned to say the least. I have never heard them so raw and agressive and almost oppressively dark in spots. The one non-spokes track was New Family played along with its video. Drew great cheer from the crowd. Almost a respite from the hard banging techno that preceded that. One more track and then back for an encore.
The best part of the evening was getting to talk to them. They came out back onto stage after the show. For two blokes that do not so much as look at the audience while they perform, they were really amazing after the show. Very polite and answered all my questions. Signed my Trainer CD. It now says Andy and Ed, Plaid on it. Some years from now, I shall show it to my children, like the day Phobe showed me the pic of his copy of 'Scoobs in Columbia'. And I shall tell them that I got to shake the hands that tweaked the knobs on 'Scoobs', 'Parasight', 'Psy Cosyn', 'Focus Mel' & 'Eyen'.
I could not ask for more.

I'm listening to Parasight now, btw. Ahhhh, I wish when I saw them over the summer they would have played 'New Family' live....that would of been something.
