I dont know if im alone on this or not.
I got into electronic music about 3 years ago after hearing
a friends copy of Come to daddy, which in turn introduced me
to Warp who I then started buying my records from. But i'm
starting to feel a little trapped by the Warp
generalisation, I dont only listen to Warp sigings but its a
lot harder to find electronic music that hasnt been snapped
up by Warp, The only way I have been able to find new
artists is through downloading, if this method is
banned/removed, then I think its going to affect sales of
the music that isnt played on Mtv, etc and introduced so
widely through promotional methods.

I listen to quite a crazy range of musical styles, but I
have noticed that if I was to tell someone at least slightly
in the know, that i listened to boards of canada and
autechre, i would immediately be classified as a 'Warphead'
It seems a little sad that it is so difficult to discover
new artists in the electronic side of the music industry
without having to rely on record label websites, and artist
recommendations in interviews.

If I didnt have the internet. I would probably still be
listening to....dare I say it..trance and garage (old
garage, not the shitty new so solid kru style)

How did you lot first get into this side of music? and how
do you discover new artists?

You need to spend more time here and you will find that
there are tons of excellent electronic artists that most of
the world will sadly never know about. :D

"how
do you discover new artists? "

coming her for about a year and a half, has introduced me to
more music then ever before.

this is a great place to learn about the more "underground"
stuff

Yeah, thats was one of my reasons for joining, I do know a
fair bit but I dont have any friends that like what I like.
Its too 'wierd' for them. So I dont get the chance to talk
about it.

This place is really good for music...I mean if you go to
the discography you can see tons and tons of stuff that
isn't on Warp...you could spend the rest of your life
listening to new music if you just went through the
discography...and three lifetimes worth if you count VSnares
output as well :D

Didnt think much to his Nymphomatriarch album. Maybe if he
slowed things down a bit he wouldnt get the remarks about
his stuff all sounding a little too similar.

Snares slow down??? Are you mad? He is perfect(?) the way
he is...if he was to slow down sadly he would just be labled
as a Tom J rip off again :(

A Tom J rip off? Who made that statement then? I couldnt
possibly even liken them to eachother. Thats craziness. Nah
he's fine working fast but it doesnt help your defence, when
you get people telling you that electronic music lacks
effort, and is a lazy way to make music, when you have
artists cranking out albums so fast..
